Something I Never Expected......

Recommended Posts

I have had a major change in the way I see food. (to tell the truth, I have wondered if this is what "normal weight" people feel) before surgery I thought about food ALL THE TIME. Why I was eating, I was thinking about what I wanted for my next meal. Since surgery the truth is, I couldn't care less about food. If I could drink my meals for the rest of my life, I think I would. Food just isn't the center of my life anymore. I love that in a lot of ways. But there is a part of my that realizes we live in a world where food plays a major role. I almost wish I was craving something, or at least enjoyed eating. It seems to just be something I know I have to deal with. (3 months ago I would have laughed if anyone told me this is how I would feel)

Does the joy come back (in a healthy way)? Or is this the new "norm"?

I wish I didn't think about food lol. The head hunger is torture. I even find mysf physically hunger more often than I think I should. I'm not gonna freak out b/c I have lost 87 lbs in 18 weeks I just hope it doesn't prove to be a big problem for me down the road.

I'm out 3 years and don't enjoy food like before surgery. I no longer have favorite foods and couldn't care less what's being served. BUT, give me stuff to drink and I'll be more then happy to do that. . I love drinking everything. . . especially crystal lite or arizona green tea with pomegrante sweetened with splenda. . . now there's a drink. . I can easily drink 64 - 128 oz a day of that stuff. . . plus Water with lemon or lime sweetened with splenda. . . but the days of lovin food is gone for me. . . don't even like Desserts anymore and couldn't care less if they are there or not. . .I'll drink me a dessert first like iced coffee with a spoon of cool whip! Yummmmmm

Unfortunately, I still love & enjoy food and think about it frequently. I feel like I'm always planning my next meal to make sure I have the right stuff. At least I'm enjoying healthy food. I wish I still didnt enjoy the bad stuff too. I just try to avoid it.

I will never forget when I was taking phentermine years ago, I thought it was like being let out of food prison. I thought that must be what normal people were like, people who didn't think about food all the time and planning what they would eat next even before finishing what they are eating now.

That is kind of the way I feel after the sleeve. I still enjoy food, but it is not all consuming because I just can't hold as much. There is no way to eat the volume I used to stuff in. I enjoy not being controlled by food anymore. Eating to live, not living to eat. Kathe

I took that stuff too. Lost a lot of weight on it only to regain what I lost. I liked the feeling. I was always charged up and speeded. Now I get that with coffee LOL! On phetermine though, I would forget to eat at all sometimes and I think the hunger was there, but I could not feel it. Like now, When I'm hungry I tend to bite the inside of my mouth. Sounds weird, but there it is. One of the weird side effects of phentermine is an obsessive chewing on the inside of the mouth.

It why those meth heads are so skinny and never want to eat. This is much healthier, no?

I never felt it was even in the realm of possibility before surgery. But like tonight, I am sitting here, already had dinner PLANNED, feeling like I don't even want to bother with it. I am not hungry, it doesn't sound good (nothing does) but my head knows I need the nutrition. So I will go in the next 15 min or so and get my dinner, and push it down. I wonder if I need to be more creative in what I am eating? (who can complain? This seems to be my biggest issue) well, this and how much I HATE tom, and the weight gain. Sucks being a woman sometimes :-)

I'm kinda the opposite. Part of the reason I've stayed heavy it's because I don't eat, well let me explain... I get up and have never been a Breakfast eater, so I won't eat, then lunch rolls around and again not really hungry so I don't eat, by the time dinner rolls around I'm starving so I would eat one huge meal a day then snack all night till bed. So it's been hard for me to adjust and forcing myself to eat all throughout the day, but it's definitely helped me to lose weight and not snack all night, plus it seems like I can make better food choices. It's all such a big adjustment for us all one way or another.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
