Your Favorite Garage Sale Buy ~ What is it?

Recommended Posts

I almost NEVER go to grarage sales. I did when Spud was a baby, but well, no cause to go now.

I think the last one I went to, the first one in ... years was golly! 10 years ago. I bought a book case. A huge solid book case. I paid $25 for it. I thought it was pine, but when I went to move it, I coudln't pick the darn thing up!

Shows you what I know about wood... It is 8'x3.5' and it weighs about 70 pounds. Wood, not particle board. My husband thinks it walnut. Or maybe lead.

It's just not fair that you guys have made so much $$ from garage sale buys. I'm going to send my DW to more garage sales. She went yesterday and only bought a couple of toys for the boys.

Kim, what kind of books do you buy to sell on E-Bay?

I'm not Kim but I know that current text books can make a fortune. Also old toys and better brand name kids clothes. ~Mandy

I grew up in a house that had garage sales, but didn't go garage saleing...

I'm having one on the 16th of this month and I hope others are thinking they are getting great finds with my 4X clothes I'll be selling! Since there will be sales all over my end of town that day, maybe I should go look for some bargains for my shrinking body!!

$15 for a 1960s Aluminum Christmas tree in the original box with the paper sleeves on each branch. I bought it because it was just like the tree my family had when I was a child. I was so excited I called my Mom to tell her about it. She said I know what I am giving you for your birthday. On my birthday she gave me the still work turning stand and color wheel from our old tree. The tree was long gone, but she kept the turning stand and color wheel. I proudly put it out along with my other Christmas Trees every year.

Maryb, those were going for TOP dollar on Ebay last year. I want one but not for the money they were going for last year. I put up several trees each year and that would just be the top of my list. I have a barbie tree for my dd, a family tree for homemade stuff, from my dd and from our childhoods. Then I have a victorian (burnt orange and pale green) themed tree, it is my pride and joy. I will post pictures at Christmas time. I pick and move stuff all the way up until it's time to take it down. I am a christmas tree nut. I love decorating, I also go all out for Halloween. ~Mandy

My best buy was a golf bag, for my DD to use on her HS golf team. I was single, money was super tight, so I thought I was lucky when I found a very cool golf bag, it had a built in stand and all, it was almost new! It was in one of the ritzy neighborhoods. She had it marked $10.00, I ask if she would take $7.00, she said sure it wasn't hers, it was her sister's ex husbands. When we got it home, and were going to clean it up, and put things in the pockets, we found 4- $100.00 bills folded very neatly in a pocket!! I ask everyone around if they thought I should take it back, they all said no---I still wonder if I should have. But boy did that money come in handy!!! Now if I could just find moe sales like that!

I had a garage sale in July to get rid of a lot of stuff we had in storage. I made $1150.00! My husband also took over $3,000.00 worth of antiques to the local museum.

My grandma used to have one of those aluminum trees. It brings back memories. I can't believe they are in demand on E-Bay. Wow.

Kat, sounds like the Lord was answering prayers. You were meant to purchase that bag.

Good luck with your sale Ericsmom.

Best deals I've got: a ton of triticale straw for the garden @ 50cents/bale;

8x8' sliding shop door with hardware for $10; Craftsman heavy duty side grinder WITH new wire wheel for $8....a WONDERFUL antique 2' long pipe wrench for $6.....quote]

Hmmmmm.....wonder why most of us don't get all warm and fuzzy thinking about an $8.00 Craftsman heavy duty side grinder WITH a new wire wheel? Could it be that we are missing the tool gene?

i got a TREK bike for $30

i prefer goodwill to yardsales- its like a thousand yardsales in one...where the clothes are sorted by size, the lamps and electronics are tested, its air conditioned, it has a bathroom, shoes are sorted by size, you can use a checkcard, you are helping a good cause, if you get home and decide it doesnt fit right you can re-donate it or return it even.

at goodwill i have gotten:

$2 cardio glide

$5 stairstepper

$20 punching bag, the large one

$12 dr marten sandals

Sounds like a great deal to me Jack. I've sold a Craftsman saber saw & Craftsman circular saw for $5 each at my own garage sale. Who needs a new one when it says Craftsman?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
