Struggling To Get Fluids And Protein In

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved four days ago (July 2nd). I'm struggling to get everything in. I am constantly full and gassy. I'm just miserable and forcing myself to do the doctor's instructions. Is this normal? Has anybody else gone through this? How did you make it through? Thanks.

Yes dear it is perfectly normal. I am one week out today and still bloated. I could start drinking my Protein Shakes until Day 4 and still trying to get in the Water. It does get better and the gas should be a big relief. Some of us look forward to it lol

I'm 3 weeks out today and am just now able to get enough Water in to not feel constantly thirsty, but I'm still having a hard time getting my Protein Shakes down. I have found crushed ice to be my new best friend! :)

What your are experiencing is completely normal. It will be very difficult to get all your Protein initially. What I did the first week or two was to freeze Protein Shakes and then drink/eat them when they got frozen/slushy. Also, sugar-free popsicles are a good way to get Fluid if you don't feel like drinking. Good luck! You're going to be fine, but it will take a while for your stomach to behave normally. Don't get discouraged.

As everyone else has said yes it is very normal for you to be feeling like that. I am 8 days post-op today and still can't get in all my Protein and just barely got in my fluids today. I am still having some problems with feeling very gassy and bloated some. It is definitely a working process and just keep in mind right now that your fluids are more important than the protein because you have to stay hydrated. Good luck! Everything is going just fine and you will do great!

Great suggestion is get some of the Gas X strips that are a peppermint flavor

gets the gas to settle down and i was able to drink much easier!!!

of course you need to walk and walk some more that helps with the gas as well

I just want to add when they say walk they mean walk!! Mine wouldn't leave untill I started 15 min walks that if I went any faster I would be jogging. If you haven't tried this I hope it helps. Good luck to you that gas is ugly.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
