I had a bad experience with my iv site. The nurses let my hand swell and wouldn't remove my iv until I bugged them enough. It turns out that the iv gave me a blood clot from my wrist to my elbow. ( they kept trying to pump fluids into me) If it is swollen and hurts you should get it check ASAP. It put me back in the hospital for 5 days.

My IV site hurt for two weeks. The first IV they put in, started leaking fluids, so they moved it to a different spot on my wrist. That IV burned and became swollen and hot to the touch. Honestly, the IV hurt MORE than the surgery. After two weeks, the pain and swelling went away. I'd definitely call your Doctor. It may just take time to heal. Good luck!

I am having the same problem. It is now swollen up past my wrist on the way to the elbow. I have emailed the Dr. and was going back to the office today anyhow. I am now going in earlier.

Some people have bloating veins as they call it. After 4 different IV sites and I started the swollen again I refused IV treatment and the nurse had to call me doctor who gave me liquid antibiotics by mouth. Remember as a patience you are legally allowed to refuse any treatment if it is causing problems. I refused mine and the doctor found an alternative method. This is not uncommon that some can not handle IVs for more than 6-10 hours.

I took out my IV after the third one failed, but that's a norm for me so I expected it. I ended up with phebitis any way, but I always do. Go to your PCP and get antibiotics and topical anti-inflammatory script. I'm 7+ weeks out and my arm still hurts to touch.

I had an IV infiltration. They wanted to start a new IV on me an hour before discharge. I wouldn't let them. I should have had them take it out, but I thought my choices were keep it in or have a new one started. I should have demanded it out.

It was sore, bruised and hot to the touch for awhile. I could not tell if it was phlebitis or not. I really hate IVs. As someone else mentioned, it was more bothersome than the surgery for me. I never took pain meds after the first pain pump or morphine made me ill. Din't need it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
