I have a group of family coming over for a cookout and I was so excited but then when I think about what I get to eat, I get this down and out feeling. Like I'm going to be missing out on what everyone else will be enjoying. I think this has been one of the hardest things for me to overcome. I'm the youngest of 8 kids and my mom was a cook,,in more ways than one..she cooked for large numbers of people, she was personal waitress to Col. Sanders at Claudias steakhouse. She cooked for the homeless and the needy. My whole life has evolved around food and I miss it so much. How can I get over this? I'm in therapy and I try so hard to look at the big picture that food is for survival,,not my friend. That my life will have such quality when I reach my goal..it is already changing. I feel good physically but mentally I suffer.

Peace queen, you have had a rough road and yet you are always supportive of others. Take a step forward and think about the Joy being with your family and friends during holidays and get togethers. They are fortunate you are here with them. Then drink a bottle or a beautiful glass full of Water, add your favorite crystal light. Talk and enjoy the company. When it is time for you to eat....then eat. Just maybe instead of a hamburger on a bun, eat 1/2 the burger without the bun (you know what I mean here). Do not feel like you are deprived, because you are not. Just watch the carbs and foods with high caloric value like alcohol, ice cream, sugars etc. If you are serving appetizers make things that work for your too...deli meat with cream cheese spread etc.

Maybe take someone and go for a walk or add some extra exercise if you eat a little more than normal :)

Find the positive, like you have shared with others.

My best to you!

I for one can say I understand where your coming from. I am 6 days post op. My mom is having a cookout and while I am not envious that everyone else can eat. I know im going to want to and I can't still on Clear Liquids. I think this maybe part of the emotional hunger struggle that we go through. We can do it though I will keep you in mu thoughts...so know your not alone. (-:

I can't describe the feeling I get. I wouldn't say it is envy that others get to eat because it is such a joy for me to cook for them. Just a little spark of that joy is missing because I think food was a big part of the social aspect for me. I'm learning how to be social without food being the center of it and it's very hard. I know it's a mental thing,,I'm just slow getting the hang of it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
