Cholesterol Still Very High

Recommended Posts

Thank you all for the info on statins (lipitor). I have decided to stop taking it from yesterday on. I had also discussed this with my SIL because she had told me not to take statins a few months ago, but never explained why. She connected me to another RN and she was talking about the side effect of lipitor are killing people. Which is true and yes, docs do listen to the pharmaceutical companies and don't do much research into the negative side effects. This RN told me that a relative of hers had neurological damage from taking this med with slow speech and cognitive processing. She gave me 2 websites that I'm going to go research after I finish posting this. Have a nice day everyone and thank you so much! :)

* Doink! You know, now that you mention it .....

I only know that I haven't felt this great in YEARS. I know they talk about it like it's an asymptomatic killer, but don't truly sick people feel pretty lousy?

I walk about 5 miles a day, do crunches, and lift. On the weekends I hike around 10 miles up mountains.

Moving enough? ;-)

yes most people just don't understand their numbers. HDL , LDL and triglycerides. I mean I have high chol but my over all number ALWAYS looks good but I needed to move more to get my hdl numbers where they needed to be.

Hey, just had an appointment with my surgeon and NUT this week and voiced my concern about my cholesterol - my NUT told me something very interesting that may make you feel better: According to her, it's normal for cholesterol to go UP after surgery for around 6-9 months, and then start going down again. The reason for this is all the fat being released or something of the sort. That made me feel a lot better, as my cholesterol was actually not too bad before surgery (yes, with statins, but with a major family history of cholesterol and heart disease, I've been on cholesterol medication since I was a child - that's the only way all of us can control it) and now it's pretty high. So I will continue to monitor it, but hope to see an improvement within a few months.

I never though of that. To tell you the truth, I really don't know WHAT happens when fat is burned.

I think it's connected to all the estrogen that's released into the body - to the best of my knowledge, high estrogen is linked to higher cholesterol.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
