Anyone have h pylori come up during their clearances??? I had an endoscopy done Monday and they took some biopsies of my stomach lining and it turns out I have h pylori.

Is pylori a bacteria? I think I've heard it before but am not sure. :)

Yep, its a bacteria and one that need to clear up before doing the surgery. I think it's a pretty simple treatment.

thier gonna give you antibiotics for 2 weeks, then you have to wait 30 days and retest. it will slow your surgery by 1 1/2 months. good luck

Yes I had to talk antibiotics for 14 days 4 pills at night and 4 in the morning. It has to be cleared before surgery the pills are huge I got tired of taking them but they clear up everything. lol

Thank you everyone for your input!!!!! I was a little upset by this news today but now that I have some more insight into it I feel a little better. Just means surgery date is going to a little further away than expected.

Of all days to read this. Having done all appts. etc. I realized I had forgotten my little cup to drop off the "sample" at the hospital-- just got the cup and the plan is to bring it tomorrow morning. I just read about how common it is after your post-- 50% of the world has it! My date is July 16th.

The lesson is:

Don't poop out on any tests!

I found out I had it after my endoscopy. My gastroenterologist told me that now I probably looking at a surgery date sometime in late september if not October.

I have to blow in a bag to assure the doctor I don't have stomach bacteria. I already took a Upper GI Endoscopy and the doctor said everything is perfect. However, the test results which finalize the test will take 7 to 10 days. My blood results were inconclusive, which mean the numbers were not low enough to tell I didn't have stomach bacteria and not high enough to show I had stomach bacteria. Today I have an appointment to get clearance for surgery and then I have to go back to the doctor to blow in a bag. This is nerve racking. ughhh! I will know something in a few hours.

My insurance said I had to take the H pylori test before approval. I took it yesterday and didn't even know what it was. I sure hope my surgery is not delayed over this. I am scheduled for the 19th this month after already having to reschedule it from July 6th. I can't handle another delay. I am praying I don't have it. So sorry for those that had to delay for that!

I had my blood tests done today & this was one of them and I swear I will be so bummed if it comes back positive and it pushes my surgery back! I still have almost a month to go until surgery and I just don't wanna push it anymore! I am so ready for this life changing event! Hopefully they will have my results back tomorrow and I'll know for sure! Crossing Fingers!

So my surgery is July 16th, pre op appointments july 9th, and my coordinator listed all the tests being run for my blood work and then mentioned an EKG as my preop. I asked if he is testing for H. Pylori and she said he usually doesn't. Am I the only one not getting tested for it? Hmm.... I'm confused

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
