Oh my Gosh that was me. I had a hernia repair too & I felt the same way I just stayed on liquids until that nausea passed. I'm 4/12 weeks out. It will go away in time I would eat lots of sugar free Popsicles & cold stuff.

I am scheduled for july 2. I have to have a h. hernia repair as well. Does this significantly increase the recovery time and make for more pain? I am just curious as to what I should expect. Also, as for a grocery list...what will I need from the store to keep me full???

This info. is good to know I am 1 week out and I had a hernia removed as well. I have not experienced a great deal of nausea yet. Of course I still have a week on the full liquids. Popsicles are very satisfying for me as well.

I had a surprise h.hernia repair thrown in with my sleeve, lol. I don't think it increased recovery time. My biggest hurdle was the incision that my surgeon said he had to cut a muscle to pull stomached through. But it's been two weeks today and it feels pretty good, virtually no discomfort.

What is a haital hernia? Why are so many getting them with their sleeve?

Attached is my food progression list my surgeon wants me to follow.

Today I had oatmeal, only ate a 4th of the packet. I also had bake potato today, was only able to eat a 4th of that also. Both things sat well in my new stomached.

I'm looking forward to tuna Fish Day!!! Lol

From what I understand... when the doctors go in to do the sleeve... they are repairing the hernia that already exists. A hiatus hernia or hiatal hernia is the protrusion (or herniation) of the upper part of the stomach into the thorax through a tear or weakness in the diaphragm.

Is that something that happened pre-surgery? Is that from GERD or something. How on earth would you know you had that?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
