Infection, Death....whatever

Recommended Posts

When choosing a Dr in Mexico there are so many different aspects. I had read about deaths, infections, crime... It started scaring the crap out of me... Guess what, most of these Mexican surgeons have performed such a large #of surgeries that of course infections are going to happen. I'm sorry, but when someone has performed THOUSANDS of surgeries compared to MAYBE A HUNDRED AT MOST IN THE USA, then yes...Ur gonna see infections. When a surgeon takes high risk patients (for example someone with a bmi over 50) then the chance of complications increases as does deep vein thrombosis. You have to do your research. Dig dig dig...and then dig some more. Only you know who feels right. Who you're comfortable with. You can ask everyone in the world their opinion of a Dr but that's just what it is. An opinion. Almost everyone you talk to is, of course, going to think his/her surgeon is the best :) the best thing you can do is compile a list of everything an anything u wanna know and have those questions answered. Good luck and many blessings, April

I couldn't have said it better. This is personal choice everyone has to make on their own based on the research they have done. You can listen to the experience of others but have to make the decision based on what your heart is telling you.

Well said!

"Surgery in Mexico" has a certain stigma associated with it, no?

"If I can't even drink the Water there, why would I have surgery?"

Umm, where do people think Mexicans go for surgery? ;)

(I might have reservations if I'd never been beyond Tijuana)

You never fail to crack me up. I think I should be the token atheist, though. (watched Zeigheist too many times)

Actually my favorite post you have made was when u asked told someone to let u know if they need you to come slap em around a little to stay on track :)

Some people are so closed minded. My friend was horrified and totally against me going to Mexico. I told her it wasn't a Tijuana chop shop and I had done my research and my surgeon was a good surgeon. I came home and haven't had one problem other than a little dehydration. I have since learned how to get my fluids in but it is a challenge. I have to say that from what I've read, the Mexico patients seem to have less complications. I know some people may not agree with my statement but it's just my observation about post op complications and post op healing.

I totally agree with you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
