An Hour Between Fluid And Meals?

Recommended Posts

My nut's orders and its killing me. It has no time line to decrease to 30 min either. Is this the norm? Im almost 4 weeks post op!

My Dr. says 15-20 min's which is a big difference. It seems like the recommendations are all over the board out there.

My recommendation is 30 minutes before and after. Reality is that I try to wait 10-15 minutes after drinking before I start to eat, then I have to wait 30 minutes or more after I eat before I can comfortably drink. If I try to drink before the 30 minutes is up, I feel uncomfortably full.

I was told not to drink 15 minutes before and can't drink until 30 minutes after.

I try to stick to 20-30min if less than that whatever I ate makes a u turn... If I wait an hour I'll never eat or drink enough... I'm still struggling trying to break 500 cal at 5 weeks out.

Thank you all. I could not see myself ever being able to get to less than 2 Protein Drinks a day due to this problem. I'll start decreasing time frame by 10 min until i find my happy place, hopefully around 30 min.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
