My doc gave me a choice of BariEssentials or Optifast. I chose the BE, and I got 4 a day if i used skim milk, and 5 a day if I used Water to mix it.

The thing they are trying to accomplish with the pre op liquid diet is shrinking the liver. Weight loss is a bonus, but they really need that liver out of the way so they don't damage it during the surgery. If it is too big, they will either cancel the surgery, or convert to an open incision where they can manually retract the liver out of the way. TMI?? ;)

My surgery date is 6/27, I'm on my first week of liq. I'm really tired of muscle milk, EAS myoplex drinks..

I could not tolerate the bariatric Protein drinks..they tore up my stomach...

Any ideas? I lost 5 lbs in less than a week

Havent started yet but I have to do the Ensure ones with 25 grams of Protein. I bought my first pack of 4 and my husband decided that he loves them (he doesn't need to lose weight! :) ). I hope that I like them!

The N.E.W. Program in Newport Beach requires that you buy their Bariatric Advantage package with shakes, Protein Bars, Vitamins, etc. for both your pre and post surgical diets, but I HATED HATED HATED the Bariatric Advantage shakes. I managed to go about five days with them on my pre-op diet before I called my NUT and begged her to let me switch to Premiere Nutrition, a brand I'd tried and loved.

Thank god she let me switch!

Premiere Nutrition comes premixed in tetra packs. 11 Fluid ounces, 30 grams of Protein, 1 sugar. You can get them at costco (exclusively, I think?) for something like $25 for 18. They're in a red and white box. Buy chocolate only; the vanilla is naaaaaassty! Also, they should be served as cold as possible, but not frozen (obviously).

Good luck!

My doc requires a 10 day Optifast pre-op. I haven't tried it yet, but everyone I've asked about it likes it.

Walmart has body fortress for 15 dollars, the chocolate is pretty good! I like to put it in a blender with some ice and mocha coffee creamer. O and 1% milk. I have yet to go from 2% to skim...I think i'll stick with 1%. My surg doesn't seem too concerned with that though. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Body by Vi Protein with some ice, milk, coffee and mocha Creamer. Very very good : ) I just had some samples of it and I know it's pretty expensive so I'm bummed. I also really like Orange Crush that my friend got at muscle max. It's also expensive at 65 bucks! That mixed with Water and a to-go packet of orange crystal lite...yummy!!!! So.... Those are the ones I recommend. If you have the money, I do suggest Body by Vi and Orange Crush. I'm so sad that I just can't justify spending that much money : / My surgery is the 27th! So I've been trying to get protein in so that liver shrinks up!!! Good luck, let me know if you find a brand you like! My doctor doesn't want us on ensure, too much other stuff in there I guess.

I remember looking at the body by vi shakes. If I remember right they didn't have that high of a protein count. I could be wrong, it is expensive though so it isn't an option for me.

I like the chocolate Peanut Butter body fortress or the chocolate premier. I'll use one of those most likely.

I had to only have 5 carbs or less and 20 grams or more Protein so I could not have Chike banana which was my favorite!I am eating Unjury chicken broth, Roy shakes which have hardly any flavor but are not nasty either, Pure Protein in Vanilla in cans from Walmart are $7.96 at Target their prices vary, and some other protein powders.< /p>

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
