Yes I agree' date=' as well there are so many health issues that ppl do suffer from due to being over weight, and many of those require medication, which some is funded by the government... If they would open it up here in Canada not to just the very obese, even at a low cost, it would be beneficial to everyone. And with such long waiting lists it gets very discouraging, b/c it takes a lot for some to actually make that decision and then to find you have a long wait, you get discouraged. My wait time in PV was like 2 weeks from the time i made my decision, to the time of surgery, and no journaling or 10% of my weight I had to lose first. I have no regrets with my decision, would do it all again. I am 14 weeks out and down 46lbs, feel so much better about ME, haven't felt like that for a long timedde00[/quote']

Good for you! I am 8 wks out, went to dr ortiz in TJ, down 30 PDs and 30 inches... Crazy how life has changed! Five months ago this was a pipe dream until I started researching out of country! Keep in touch, nice to see fellow albertans on here;)

I'm thinking about going to Dr Garcia in Tijuana, but still deciding. How do you make a claim to AB gov? That would be great to recover some costs!!

I don't really know if you go through a clinic rather then an actual hospital if you can claim it. I was given the forms from my facilitator, and I had 3 receipts from the hospital we were in, it broke all the expenses down and that's what the form asks for us a copy if the receipts and then fill out the amounts in the form. I would personally call AHC and ask them for a claim form. You have 1 yr from date if surgery to claim. It's about a 12 weeks wait time, is what I'm told I haven't got anything back yet, only been 3 weeks. It is nice to see other Albertans on here. Are you looking at going on your own or with a facilitator?

Hey all! I'm going to Mexicali to have revision surgery from band to sleeve on March 8th. I chose Dr. Aceves personally from the stories I heard about revisions. It's a little more money but worth it. I wanted to go back to Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana but my research for revision put me to Dr. Aceves. I have no issues about going to Mexico (although some people I told do) and had the best experience at the OCC the first time. 4 years ago I put a claim in with AB Health and they paid for quite a bit of my surgery (lapband) --- going to try again ;). I have pre op on the 7th and surgery the 8th... We fly back on the 11th. I'm so ready for this and wish it could happen now!! :). Ps -- I'm from Fort McMurray.

You'll do great!!! I really wanted to go back to the OCC but my research brought me to Dr. Aceves who said he was the best for revision surgery. I'm nervous as well -- but know that it'll all go ok!

I'll make sure that I fill you in on how things go! My vacation starts on Wednesday (I'll start it off in Florida first) and then only a week after that ..... ahhhh!!!! Keep in touch!!

Alana

Google Alberta Health Services Out Of Country and you will get their out of country services form :) fill it out and submit what it tells you to. You will get some money back, it seems to vary from person to person. I got $1700 back from my band. I havent submitted for my revision yet. I know others who have got back anywhere from $1600-$2100

Make sure you get receipts for you surgery, mine was broken down into cost of dr's and medication, hospital fees, they were all on seperate invoices. I went to PV and do not regret it one bit. Good luck to you.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
