My Husband... The Enabler

Recommended Posts

So I'm 7 weeks post op tomorrow. Down 32 pounds since surgery after a 3 week stall. I was talking to him about how I would love some chocolate... You know how our minds go. He jumps out with "I'll go get you a cookie, love". WTF? We just spent all this money on surgery and... Really? Hell yeah I want a cookie. But not gonna eat it. And he even brought it over...

P.S. my husband is a tall, thin man that has always eaten whatever he wanted and never gain weight. He and my one year old are the reasons for the Cookies in the house.

I can completely understand this. My husband is tall and thin as well and can eat whatever he wants and not gain a pound. Even at 18 months out my husband will offer me sweets and whatnot that he KNOWS I dont eat. It will take him some time to get used to the new changes in your eating habits. It can be frustrating at times haha :)

I am going to have to call you on something...did you say a 1 year old is fed Cookies???

so sorry love, but that is bad. It should stop...children cannot be obese if they are not exposed to the habits and food...your hubby should be told, sorry - healthy foods and Snacks only.

Yes ma'am I did say one year old and cookie in the same sentence. Was actually waiting for this after I posted it. I feed my child the diet I never could. She gets lean Protein, two-three servings of fruits, two-three servings of vegetables, her needed amount of dairy, and whole grains. With that being said, one cookie a week will not make someone obese. And 99% of the time she would rather have a couple slices of apples or carrot sticks rather than sweets. She is in normal range for weight, especially considering she is in the 100 percentile of her height. And I make the Cookies with splenda and karob instead of chocolate chips. I never want her to go through what I've went through in my life. Thank you though for caring enough to call me out.

My husband is the same way. Thin, tall and has a great metabolism.

The cookie situation with the one year old is not that big of a deal if you also expose the child to fruits and vegetables too. The key to keeping a child from being over weight is balance and lots of activities like sports or playing outside daily. Every child should have a cookie once in a while. It is the sitting in front of the TV with limited activity that makes a child obese not just a cookie.

Exactly. I have the normal 16 month old. She won't sit still and is into everything and climbing everything. Tv is off most of the time. And the only real time she sits still in her waking hours is reading (she LOVES to read). I am definitely not one of those parents who lets tv raise their kids...

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
