New Orleans in Danger again

Recommended Posts

You mean I am not going to live forever? Quick! Get me my car keys. I need to go out and buy gas!

After growing up in Cleveland, and living in Wash DC for 8 years it was a hoot watching everyone in DC line up at the Safeway or Giant for TP, bread and milk. When I say line up, I mean lines to the back of the store in anticipation of "the BIG snow" (if an inch or 2 was predicted). Another PLease!

Ok, I missed the point on how "the Donald" and his bad hair and fat wallet got mixed up in this thread......
I have a way of thinking which involves the use of analogy. I was trying to make a point about how people who do "have", do not appreciate what they have and can not see why people who don't "have", can not accomplish, do or make the same decisions or progress that they make. I used Donald Trump as an example. Money and education were his "haves". There are other "haves" besides money.

We here at Lap-Band-Talk all have a short-coming regarding our ability to get to and to stay at a safe and healthy weight. Most of us bristle when people make fun of our weight or make fun of our decision to seek a Lap-Band for help.

Yet many people, both members here at this forum and others, can not see how some people in New Orleans didn't have the resources to leave. If you would have found a way to leave no matter what, that's great for you. But would you want someone to say to you, "I would find a way to lose weight no matter what." Considering that more people die from obesity than die from hurricanes each year, I do not think that the analogy is far-fetched.

You asked. I explained. I hope I did a good job.

TOM

PS: The Donald's looks were just a thrown in satirical remark I made about him: "You wouldn't catch me on those corny TV reality shows even if I was as famous and handsome as the Donald."

OK, gotcha and DO agree w/you on that one. I've heard folks say that WLS is the "easy way out", they obviously have never experienced what I/we here on this forum have as far as weight issues go. As to the same as some folks couldn't get out of the City last year too. The media, I believe, T H R I V E S on the negative, ie how much fraud occurred w/the debit cards, folks applying for multiple cards, looting, people opening up their homes to vicitms, then getting robbed etc. I'm sure that didn't help outsider's views of the situation. Saw something that sickened me on one of the cable shows last week. It was about a Dr. and his staff that stayed behind in the storm to help the VERY sick paitents left behind and how they had NOTHING to care for these people with or finally, get them out if they didn't die first. Sorry, but I think somebody needs to take responsibility for that one too. I think they know who they are, but when it comes time to meet their maker (who ever they believe it to be) they'll get it then. We all know what opinion's are like, we all have one and think the other one sinks, but that's the way it is. I probably shouldn't say this but I really have had it with $ going everywhere else but within our own borders!:peace:

Eduardo seems to be shifting westward again, which means i get to go play in the rain. LOL It is not a hurricane, and will more than likely never regain hurricane status.

from the Tampa news:

“This storm should not result in loss of life if people will just heed the safety messages,” said state Emergency Management Director Craig Fugate.

"hands Funny a sou' wester".

Even if it doesn't strike hard, you might need it for the "blow".

I wonder if I would be classified as a have or a have not.
Each of us are "haves" regarding some attributes and "have nots" regarding other attributes.

I assure you that if you were a plane crash surviver (like in the TV series "Lost") you would rather have me with you than Bill Gates or Donald Trump. As long as we didn't talk to each other, I could probably do more things since I have experiance with working with my hands and mind. The two billionaires while getting credit for doing things usually only do the paperwork.

Getting back to the question. My point was that many (if not most people) forgive themselves for their "havenots" while comparing themslves on the attributes in which they are "haves" with people who are "have nots" on those attributes.

Like I did with the billionaires compared to myself.

Now most people would compare the billionaires to me and find me wanting because most people are thinking of money.

I have a beautiful wife (for 39 years), much too beautiful for me, most people think. When people tease her and ask why she married me, she says "because of his personality" and they believe her. When people ask "the Donald's" 20 year old girl friend (de jour) why she dates him and she says "because he has a great sense of humor", do many people believe her?

Actually if I were in a plane crash I would do fine on my own. I also have a history of working with my hands and my brain. And just because I admire moneymakers does not mean i want to be stranded on an island with them. LOL I know bill gates. I don't hate the man but he is boring as hell!!

You are right on!! :high5: As far as the media, of course they thrive on the bad stuff. When there's not enough bad stuff, they'll just make up something. Speaking of snow, I love it when we get a HUGE snow storm. I grew up with snow and can drive in deep snow without any problems. It's the other idiots that concern me.

I'll never forget last year when we had a big snow storm. My son got very ill with the flu and couldn't stop throwing up. After some meds & talking all day with the doc, I had to take him to the ER. I had to carry my little man through snow almost up to my knees. There were wrecks all over the freeway and I had to make a u-turn and take back roads. We never got over 20 mph, but made it to the ER. Something any mother would do for their child.

I know this is a little OT, but I want to share one of my favorite snow pics. This is my son and the pee tree. Now you know how we get big trees here in IN.

I live in Tampa and we are just projected to get rain and wind today, nothing serious. The storm may be downgraded to a tropical depression. This has been a nice, calm hurricane season thus far. Much much better than last year.:)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
