I am not trying to scare anyone from having this done, by any means. I have had the best most painless recovery except for back pain until today. I have eaten very slowly, monitored head hunger vs head hunger, and have just been generallly VERY aware of what I'm doing and how I'm feeling. I am two weeks and four days out from surgery. Tonight after eating a very tender 3oz hamburger patty, I began having sharp pains that almost seem to make me lose my breath about thirty minutes after my last bite. I have just been sitting here since waiting for it to subside. Of course, the first thing that came to mind was a leak. I am just a little paranoid. There almost is like a "gurgly" feeling in that area. Not just those weird sounds and feelings I've had post op.

I have no fever. Should I just let it slide and if it is bothering me tomorrow, call my surg?

I'm so sorry you aren't feeling well. You sound very dedicated to doing the right things according to your surgeon and recovery process. Only you know how you are feeling and what you are comfortable with. Everyone is different. That being said I hope that you feel better soon and please keep us updated I wish I had better advise for you but I have never had that sensation. Good luck to you and welcome to the losers bench!!

Hamburger meat is still giving me problems over three months out. Shouldn't you still be on mushies at the most right now? Your stomach is still healing and is probably rebelling at the food. It's probably not a leak but call your doc if it's still giving you problems in the morning.

I haven't been sleeved yet but wanted to respond because I'm sure you're a bit freaked out right now. From what I understand, beef can be pretty tough to digest at first. Have you eaten it before? Are you feeling better now? Perhaps try some antacid?

You would probably feel better if you call your surgeon in the morning just in case. Good luck!

My doctor progressed me from liquid/mushee to soft easily chewed solids last week at my two week check up. He said as long as I could chew very thoroughly and eat slowly, anything should go. He really enforced any kind of softer meat for Protein, so my mom cooked up a really tender hamburger patty for me.

I know compared to most on the boards, my eating progression seems pretty fast paced.

I have been on anti acids since day one of surgery since I also had a hiatal hernia repair.

I have nott been sleeved yet but I agree with the whole safe than sorry thought and I would contact my doc ASAP.

I was glad to hear you had a good recovery but this freaked me out a little!

I am definitely going to call tomorrow, even if my symptoms have subsided. Im no so sure I am dealing with these foods really well...

Personally, it could be anything. I get pain when I drink tea. Play by ear tonight and see how it goes. I'm a month out.

The 2nd time I had chicken that happened to me. I was freaking out and contemplated going to the ER. I was about 2.5 weeks out then too. I called my sister who had the surgery a couple months before me and she said she'd had the same issues when she started with meat Protein, but to go if I was concerned. Of course I didnt go, and the next morning it was fine, so I never went to the Dr for it, but you have to do what youre comfortable with. Its better to be safe than sorry :)

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I heard beef is harder to digest, and it takes quite a while before you can eat it without having a problem.

I believe it is probably what you ate. That is going to be terrible to digest, even super moist. Do you normally eat 3 oz. of something that dense? 3 oz. of beef is not 3 oz. of Soup. I am 4 months post op and cannot eat but 1-2 oz. of meat. I truly believe you over eat. If you did, it will sit like a rock for HOURS. IMO, I would hold off on hamburger for a little longer. It is very likely to make you uncomfortable. And maybe try less. That dense meat really sits hard in there. Hope you are feeling better soon. If you are still sick tomorrow, call the doc and tell them what happened. I'm pretty sure they will tell you the same. I have had a ton of eating issues, so trust me; I have been there too. It is all trial and error learning your sleeve, unfortunately even more for some of us. Best wishes!!

I am 3 weeks post op and am having the same issue...I actually posted about it earlier today...I chew slow and eat slow but everything i eat gets stuck and i get sharp pains in my chest that take my breathe away...I feel your pain literally...feel better soon

I not sure what you been old to eat but 2 weeks out I was just starting on mushies maybe it was to soon to eat hamburger

I'm three months post-op and am still afraid to eat any sort of chopped beef or chicken or turkey (even though that's one of the first foods the doctor said I could eat) because almost every time I tried (and believe me I tried - these are my favorite proteins), my sleeve rebelled. I personally think part of it is due to the fact that I ate too much and too quickly (the one time I ate about 1/10 of a mixed beef / turkey hamburger very, very, very slowly it was OK), but there are other foods that can go down a lot more quickly by me. So my feeling is that your sleeve is reacting to the food (despite the doctor saying it's OK - these types of reaction are so individual) and / or the amount. Probably what will make you feel best is throwing it all up (sorry if that doesn't sound pretty, but that's the only thing that works for me, and I still end up having to do it every so often when my sleeve takes issue with something I've eaten).

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
