"slow Losers" And Long Term Results?

I am almost 2 years out from my sleeve. I started my journey at 304 pounds and am now at 170 pounds. My goal weight is 140 lbs so I am still 30 lbs from goal and I have def been a slow loser ( or at least I feel I have) Most girls I have talked to have reached goal in less than 2 years. But I myself feel that I couldnt of lost 160 lbs in 2 years if I wanted to! I am in no rush to "get to goal." Sometimes its hard to not compare ourselves with others, but I am convinced that slow and steady wins a race. I have been in this darn stall for 6 weeks and am ready to see the numbers moving. But enjoy this journey and all the NSV's along the way. You will do just fine! :)

This is a great thread! I also consider myself a slow loser, but remember something very relevant in regard to stalls. Your body remembers every single weight that you stayed at long term. So, there are steps along the way where we seem to stall out at one certain for what seems like forever. It is because your body is clinging to these familiar places (weights). These are the stalls that are really hard to break even though you seem to be doing everything right. I have found this very comforting. I am stuck right now at 195, which is a weight that I was for a long time about 5-7 years ago. If you keep this in mind, you will be less frustrated. Your body is just like many people. Bad habits are hard to break, such are habitual weights that we have stayed at for a long time in the past. So, as we hit rewind on these years and years of gaining, we are bound to hit weights that we have steadied at in the past and our bodies want to stay there. It's like staying in a relationship that is not healthy just because it is comfortable. We have a relationship with our bodies and are shaking it up, so when our bodies find a familiar place, it wants to stay.

Great thread... and I for one feel that I am defo a slow loser... but a loser none the less!

I am days away from my 2yr anniversary and still not at goal - need to shed between 14-24lbs - and I haven't lost a pound for over 8mths! (I am on HRT tablets and I feel that this might have something to do with this stall from hell!)

I've tried everything...and I mean everything, but my body doesn't want to play ball and is in total opposition to my head!! Although this is really frustrating, as I would love to be at goal and feel that I am 100% successful, not 74% successful, I realise that I am now a lot healthier and fitter than I was two years ago.

Another thing this stall has taught me is that I am not afraid of maintance ... sitting at this weight has sort of relaxed my mind that I am able to maintain the loss that I have achieved.

I am sure that one day the scale will move... it has to eventually, right? And besides, there is no expiry date to the sleeve. You never know... I might get the record for 'the longest time to hit goal' ...lol!

We just have to keep doing what we are doing and remember that we are not defined by a number or an antiquated BMI chart (hmmm, I still don't want to be obese mind!), but instead we are individuals who should only measure our success by ourselves and no one else!

Slow but sure wins the race my friends...

Thanks Elyse. Good to hear. I don't mind it not all falling off at once either. I am definitely enjoying getting into old clothes and getting some new ones too. Good luck in your journey!

Finding this thread quite interesting. Wondering what people define as "slow" given some of the scenarios here. Going into this my expectation was 20-25 lbs the first month, and about 10 thereafter until anywhere from month 6 to 12. (I'm 5'7" and had a starting BMI of 40). What do folks consider "slow"?

I have to say, my weight loss has stopped. I've been the same 236-8 lbs since May. I was hoping for 10 lbs this month but that does seem to be happening. Now I'm hoping for just 3lbs!

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
