Hello,

I am new to the boards. I am pre-op and still not 100% sure that I want to go through with the surgery. I don't have any weight related health issues right now. However I could stand to lose 100 pounds! Also diabetes runs in my family in fact my mother died at only 36 y/o due to complications from diabetes. I'm almost sure I want to have the surgery but I'm just so curious to see how people feel that have already been there and done that. How would you rate your overall experience from the surgery until now? I find this board to be very helpful during this decision making process.

Thanks In Advance,

Neta

As a person who has had the complications that you hear about, I would only subtract for the bad part I went through and give the surgery an 8. After healing and getting on track with the weight loss, I'd give it a 10. I do miss food and struggle with my food demons but I would've never lost this much weight EVER, without the surgery. If you think you can lose it on your own, I'd try it but ask yourself how many times have you tried that and failed or gained the weight back? Ask yourself alot of questions and really do your homework about the surgery. You are making a good start with your post,,good idea. Good luck, sweetie.

I am so happy I did it I did not have any health issues but I did not want to have any either I was sleeved on 4/4 and have lost 38lbs I have not had any complications and have felt great from day one the benefits far outweigh the risks I think most people on here feel the same this is the most supportive. Kind group of people

If you have tried diet and exercise to lose weight and have not been successful and have decided that you will use Weight Loss Surgery then by all means, go with with the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. Of the 3 most common - gastric bypass, the lap band, or VSG - the latter is the most succesful and least damaging to your health. I am very happy with how I feel, how and what I can eat, and with my weight loss. I give it an 8. I'll give it a 10 when I reach goal :)

I had no health issues but I didn't want any. I would give it 9 only because there is no perfect surgery (although this one come close).

Thanks for your responses! I am about 95% sure that I want to do this. It sounds like the first couple weeks to a month are the worst/hardest to deal with. I've read that a lot of people wish they did the surgery sooner. I don't want to be that person 5 years from now. I'm pretty sure that I can take 2-4 weeks of learning how to eat with my sleeve to be more healthy for a lifetime!

I'm one of those people who wished I did it sooner. I had a rough surgery but would do it again in a heart beat. I love being full with such a small amount of food. I eat healthier & I'm already off of hypertension medication. I'm only 5 1/2 weeks post op. I give it a 10 whether I reach goal or not since I'm already on the road to better health : )

I just made the decision last month after considering it for the past 2 years.. I completely understand the "not wanting to look back 5 years from now and regretting not having it done" I am 40 years old and the time to get my life back is NOW!! My date is June 29 and I am excited, nervous, anxious, etc, etc! I do know this though, 1 year from now I will look back and be glad I did it!!

I give it a 9. The only reason I wouldn't say a 10 is because I have a lot of questions that came up post op that research can't yet fully answer. I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is a big adjustment and should be done in a point of your life where you have time for self reflection and adjustment. I am so glad I got my sleeve!

I am 6 days post-op & at home just 2 days. I also have no co-morbidity issues. I'm 38 yo with 130 pounds to loose.

It has been a journey of ups & now downs & ups again. My advice is too read as much about your surgery and the boards as you can. Ask questions, we will all answer

I am 2 weeks post op and although they were byb far very hard I wouldnt change a thing. I am down 21 pounds , my blood pressure meds were cut in half hopefully next appt they might be gone altogether. I was second guessing right up to laying on stretcher waiting to go to OR but said this little bit of pain will deff be better then being known as the grandma thats too fat to get up and play at 44......it is for sure the right decision. good luck alittle more research and you will be fine....we are all here for you

Best decision of my life. I am 3 weeks post op, no complications and minus 15-17 pounds. My asthma, high blood pressure and pre diabetes...all gone. I tried everything prior to the sleeve, lost only so much and gained all back plus.

I am now down from 272 from the Fall to 225 and feel 20 years younger.

Would do it over and over and over and over again if I had to....wish I had done it 15 years ago...I love being in control of what I eat...once you get past the restrictions, you can just about eat anything....I am sometimes in awe at how much less I am eating than before...food goes way further now...I don't eat all the leftovers...I don't snack...I don't eat a meal before the meal....I drink Water all the time...love, love, love my sleeve. Now, if I could just kick start my butt to exercise!!!!!!!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
