Dr. Kelly Calling In 15Min! What Do I Ask?

Recommended Posts

Wow, so I just sent my questionnaire to Omar last Thursday and he just called. He said Dr. Kelly is going to be calling in 1-15min! I wish I had some questions prepared! Anyone around?

Sorry.....I just logged in. Did he answer all of your questions? What do you feel that you would have liked more information on?

Darn, wish I had seen your post earlier! Hope you had a good talk with him. Even though you didn't have any specific questions, I'm sure Dr. Kelly was able to put you mind to rest in many ways. He's very good with patients (even better in person!).

If you think of more questions now though, I'm sure he'll be happy to answer by email, or even by phone again!

I had a long list of questions to ask, but many of them were quite technical in nature, as I have a medical background. I asked about:

- his rate of complications (leaks, infection, clots, deaths etc.)

- how many VSGs he had performed, and for how many years

- did he use prophylactic blood thinners to prevent post-op clotting

- average % weight loss of his patients after surgery (approximate)

- does he oversew his staples (yes!)

- what size bougie does he use (36 Fr)

- is there good support for pre-op and post-op diet instructions?

And many more.....

Ah, my blog is woefully lagging behind! I'm spending too much time here on VST! LOL

Maybe I'll do a little updating....

:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
