Never Trust A Fart!

Recommended Posts

I am so relieved this thread is here! I thought I was alone. My sharts stopped after I stopped the pain meds. Maybe I was too loopy to notice impeding doom? Thankfully my hubby travels to foreign countries and consumes unusual foods which leads to unusual sharts. So when i told him, he couldn't say poop. Literally.

Too funny!!! I'm single, so I can toot at home as much as I like. Sometimes though when I can feel one coming, I have this fear that I won't make it out of hearing/ smell range quick enough. Then, god forbid it just sneaks up on ya. This actually happened to me when I was in a guy's cube at work. I was doomed. I was sitting down and he was showing me some stuff on his computer. I knew if I stood up, I wouldn't make it out of the cube, so I was hoping my butt would keep the smell in the chair--- yeah, that didn't work. He didn't say anything, but I know he noticed. I was quite embarrassed but pretended like nothing happened. Those poor office chairs..... I tell ya.... sure makes a person think twice about getting a used office chair for one's personal use... LOL

Lol...ever since going on Metformin for my diabetes, I've been very musical :)

I have always been a "regular" person, and sometimes can be soft or liquidy anyways...this sharting thing is definitely something to look forward too **NOT**! LOL

I had that same problem with Metforin - luckily, after surgery, no longer diabetic! Bye bye Metformin!

The day after the surgery the nurses kept asking me if I had passed gas yet, and I kept answering no, and asked if I was supposed to. I wanted to get out of the hospital as soon as possible and get back home to my nice comfy bed....so when the tummy started rumbling and I felt like I needed to pass wind I gave a little push....only to find that it was not gas at all !!!!

I was extremely embarrassed. I could not believe that this was happening to me. Luckily I had a private room, so I quickly went into the restroom and finagled getting my undies off which was complicated with a catheter and hopped in the shower. It really was the most disgusting thing that has happened to me since being pregnant.

I am so relieved to find out that I am not the only one that this has happened to. A week after surgery and I don't trust gas to be just that.

I actually switched to the zero calorie Vitamin Water due to my excessive "blow outs". Because of the Fluid loss, I am worried I will become dehydrated, as I was when I went into surgery. The Vitamin Water has some more electrolytes along with what is in the Vitamins. Also, the more solid my diet is...etc etc...

And it's weird with what my stomach will tolerate. Protein shakes and milk are a NO GO, but cottage cheese and regular cheese with whole grain crackers is fine- one day, I will get this all down.

P.s. Soooo thankful to hear everyone has had some surprises! My mom was up to help take care of me, and was home the first time it happened. I think she was more embarrassed than me, and told me not to tell my husband- of course I told him anyway, as he has shite himself and he hasn't even had surgery!

This happened to me in the hospital on discharge day. Had no idea, got up to go to the bathroom and left a trail on the bathroom floor. I had a roommate who was practically comatose, but she had visitors. Mortifying! I could barely move, was still attached to an IV, and was desperately trying to clean myself up. On the plus side, I had no problem passing gas!

I had terrible issues with the liquid diet before surgery. My stomach was so loud that you could hear it across the room. The sound was not that of hunger growles, but gas. I just apologized to the people around me and laughed with them. I also had the runs the entire two weeks of my pre-op liquid diet. I was actually nervous that I would lose my bowels on the operating table. After surgery, I was completely constipated for about a month. I am in my 6 weeks of post op and am getting less constipated. Sometimes, after I drink a Protein Shake, I need to make a run for the bathroom. I hate when I am at work and this happens. It is a very small office with the bathroom close to everyone.

This happened to me the day after I got home from surgery. I thought it was just a fart but then it was warm...lol. I made a run for it but alas, I had sharted. Then about two weeks later, I was hospitalized for a kidney stone and sharted in my bed. I didnt even have to fart and just woke up to feeling something warm and realized what it was! I had an IV and I was trying to stop it but there was no use. I made a mess in my bed and I had to call for help to clean it because I was under so much sedation. I had a tough time with Constipation after that for months. It was horrible. I started drinking muscle milk again and even though its lactose free, it works like a laxative for me. After so much constipation issues, horrible pain with that, I welcome the runs from Muscle milk. It doesnt happen every time, just about every third day, I will have a very sudden and loose stool. Thats fine by me, at least I dont have constipation anymore. I dont shite myself anymore, but its a close call sometimes! Funny how things affect each of us differently. My sister who was recently sleeved too, had some sharting accidents as well early on. I guess most of us go through this at one time or another.

Add me to the list of post surgery lactose intolerant sharters! It has stopped since I gave up the lactose. The first was the worst, I was in a hotel room alone and sharted on the floor on my way to the bathroom. I cleaned up as best i could, but I have since asked my PA not to book me back into that hotel. The shame!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
