Sound Off On Post Op Appetite

Recommended Posts

Hunger... *sigh* it's been a rough afternoon for me. Celebrated my first nsv, then it was capoot.

I'm less than a week out and I'm already wanting something "different". I pretty much cried all afternoon. No regrets, but it's a grieving process for me. I'm grieving the loss of my life time friend, lover and companion - food. Yes, I knew this was part of "it" - blah blah. It still has thrown me for a loop.

However - actual hunger - nope, not yet! Good luck to you!

Im a month or so out and I do get hungry but a 1/2 cup or something small like that fills me up. If I don't drink enough fluids I get hungry faster. The head hunger is the worst part right now

I'm about a week out. When i cook my fiancee dinner it smells good, but it doesn't make me hungry. I have pretty much no appetite at all anymore.

3 months out - real hunger nope - sometimes forget to eat. Most days though I eat when I am suppose to and when I get that empty feeling. Water will usually satisfy that. I usually carry some Atkins Protein Bars around with me or cheese sticks just to make sure I get my Protein in for the day, especially if I am running around town. :)

Before surgery when I got hungry it was all consuming for me. I couldn't think or do anything until I ate. And if I let myself get that hungry I ATE. Now a month after surgery I will say that I do occasionally feel hungry... that's not even the right word. I get an empty uncomfortable feeling that makes me want to eat. It's not very often. And it's not the overwhelming, desperate feeling that I had before when I hadn't eaten in a while. It's just a trigger now as opposed to a driving force.

Hope that helps!!

I like the way sarahcc put it - I don't consider it hunger like before, but I can tell when I need nutrition, especially first thing in the morning, but it's definitely not what I consider hunger, which is why I put that I don't get hungry in my first response. :-) For me, it's a completely different relationship with food now & nothing like before! I now eat for necessity & not for desire or because it controls me. Now I control me!!

At 3 weeks out, I'm not feeling any real hunger, but a bit of head hunger. I do feel like I'm having to eat every few hours to simply get in enough calories, though.

13 weeks out. Not hungry but crave snowcones all the time. I really dont care about food. Protein Shake in the AM and Water n snowcones the rest unless I feel like something else. Haha popscicles. Sorry. Food isnt ever on my mind. cheese and those sinsational tuna in the cans do the trick for me. I force myself to eat 3x a day.

I had my sleeve on May 7th. I have not felt hungry one time since. I actually had my first non-liquid meal today, it was 1/4 cup of pureed vegetable beef stew (wonderful). After 1/4 cup of that, I felt as full as if I had eaten a double meat, double cheese Whataburger, large fries and large milk shake. I keep waiting to feel hungry, but it hasn't happened.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
