The surgery itself was so easy, hardly any pain.... I'm a worry wart though and have been struggling with all the what could go wrongs lol since I came home.

Most of it was just worrying (I went from worrying about pneumonia to pulmonary embolism to heart failure lol) however.....lol. I went to see my NP yesterday and I'm having a low heart beat (defined as less than 60, mine was 52). We suspect that I got dehydrated while I was traveling after surgery and I didn't realize it. She did an EKG and it was fine, but I'm going back Thursday to see the internal medicine doc.

I super hydrated yesterday (almost 100 oz) and this morning my pulse is up to 60!

And I'm starting full liquids today so that means I'm starting Protein, so I should start feeling better I hope

When I got home after surgery (day 4) I had gained 11 lb over surgery day. This morning I am only up 2 lb, so that's good.

However (I know I'm not supposed to compare!) I see my sleeve sisters & brothers having lost 5-10+ lb already and I'm just wondering why I'm still retaining Water and they apparently aren't.

Oh well, hopefully I'm almost over this little hump :)

Glad to hear your pulse is up. Keep the fluids going. The Protein will help you feel better. Just curious what hospital did you have your surgery at and did you like Dr. Garcia and his staff? I have heard of him and have heard good things. Did you have surgery in Tijuana?

I had surgery at Mi Doctor Hospital and yes in Tijuana. I liked everyone there. Two nurses stood out - Isabanna and Karen (if I understood them correctly). Yes there is a language barrier, but I had a lot of fun using my minimal Spanish skills lol. I was always able to get my point across. And if not, there's always Google Translate!

They actually told me when I left - make sure you get your liquids in, we don't want to see you back here in a couple days for an IV.

I guess I just wasn't paying enough attention, and I was kind of afraid of drinking too much at a time.... Now I'm counting every drop lol.

I highly recommend them, I had a great experience there. Samuel the driver is super nice and although Meli & Rosie (coordinators) are very nice & speak excellent English, we found that we had to ask two or three times before getting something resolved (such as staying in San Diego our last night instead of Tijuana). Wasn't a big deal, I just prefer things to be done well in advance!

Some people just hold on to Fluid more & you could still have internal swelling too. I've lost all that I gained with surgery, but I know other people who haven't yet. It could take another week or so from what I've seen in others. Just keep following your diet plan and getting in your liquids & I'm sure your body will catch up soon!!

Also, you will retain Water when you are dehydrated. You have to drink more to lose more... so don't get discouraged! You're just in the healing and adjusting phase..... you're gonna do great! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
