Newbie question...

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Aug 11 and I am beginning to feel very little restriction. I know that after the surgery you are very tight from the swelling but I don't feel tight anymore. I feel kinda normal like I could eat anything. I'm not, I am still doing my diet (down 17 lbs) but I just don't feel very tight anymore.

Is this normal??? and after a fill will it feel like it did after surgery?

Yes, this is normal. Your job right now is to heal up, not lose weight... As far as feeling tight after a fill? Maybe, maybe not. My wife does for a while, then back to normal. She has had 5 or 6 fills so far and she feels that they are right on the verge of her sweet spot, but noooooot quite. She goes in Thursday for another one.

What he said. LOL! This is not what is the focus right now. Healing is the main focus of the 1st 6 weeks. As the swelling is reduced, the tightness will also be reduced...this is a good time to start working on your "head band."

Keep up the good work!

i have not had the surgery yet but from what i understand i will be on a liquid diet for 4 weeks after. is this what everyone does? I would think a significant amount of weight would come off during that time.

losha, everyone is different and most of the doctors have differing diet plans. My wife was on liquids two weeks before surgery and two weeks after. Then a week of mushies before she could have "normal" food. At her first fill date she had lost 22 lbs. Since then the weight loss has been slow, but continuous.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
