Sleeved On May 17Th - I Thought I Was Ready. Not!

Recommended Posts

I am 3 days post-op. My first day was horrible because of gas pain, nausea and vomiting. I was afraid I would hurt my sleeve. Also I was hooked up to a bunch of monitors because my blood pressure sky rocketed. The dry heaves really hurt your belly. I didn't feel like talking to anyone. Day 2 was a little better. I asked for pain and nausea medicine like clockwork to help me cope. I also slept a lot. My Iron count was very low too. I had to get an Iron transfusion. The gas pains seemed to go away but I'm still scared of hurting my sleeve. Day 3 there was little nausea but no dry heaves or retching. I did vomit a lot of foamy stuff. I'm home now and I feel better. I didn't sleep well last night. I have 3 small and 1 big incisions above my belly button. I did get up and walk and I manged to drink without becoming nauseous. My doc said it's normal for women to experience severe nausea. The docs would not dischage me until I could drink without vomiting.

I wasn't scared going into the surgery but I feel a mini meltdown coming over me. I have tons of meds and Vitamins to take (approx 10) including levonox shots I have to give myself to prevent blood clots.

I'm keeping it real with you. You have to be strong. You have to know what you want. I don't think there is anything you can do to prepare yourself because each person is different. I figured I had two C-Sections and a hernia operation so it would be a piece of cake! NOT! LOL

This is going to be a lifesaver for me so I keep focused on that. Most people feel like themselves by the 5th day post-op I'm told and have experienced. My friend was sleeved on the 15th and she is going back to work tomorrow. I took a week off from work. The doctor wants me to take two weeks.

I went for two walks today and I do feel better every day!

Thank you so much for your honesty. I have my surgery tomorrow so at least I have a realistic view of what may happen. I hope you are doing better now.

Sorry the begininng was rough going...but you sound like you are getting there. I made a chart to stay on top of everything at first. It helped me. Praying you feel great tomorrow!

PS you honesty is important...others need to know all the different results...the more you know the better you make decision.

It gets better! Sounds very similar to my experience, I was sleeved May 15th! Minus all the complications! All I did was sleep and didn't want anyone to bother me! Couldn't keep down any meds so they finally gave me some through the IV and then I felt 90% better!! I'm almost day 6 and feeling almost normal again! Going back to work later this week... Those first few days were rough though but you will be up and at it in no time!!

That's right girl, no matter what you have read or looked at, there is no way to completely prepare yourself for what you are going to go through. It is such a shock to the body! At least it eases up pretty quick; although when you are in the mist of it it feels like an eternity. Hang in there. Glad you are starting to feel better.

I'm a stomach sleeper too! I kind of figured I would have to figure out something else for a couple of weeks. Maybe sleeping sitting more upright which a bunch of pillows behind me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
