Oh No! Mcdonalds For Lunch?

Recommended Posts

Thanks guys!!! I was surprised how filling that was. I did not eat the entire tortilla but did eat about half of it. Everything settled pretty good and I'm still sipping on my ice tea. And with all your posts and support I now feel pretty good about my choice. It feels so good to be able to eat with others and feel part of a group :)

You made a mistake... I would have gotten a Big Mac,removed the center piece of bread so I could fit the burger in my stomach and ordered a small fries. You're entitled every now and then so when the opportunity presents itself go for it. That's what I do. I've never seen people so afraid to indulge once in a while. It won't hurt you! I lose 15 lbs per month and eat whatever I want. 90% of the time it's a smart meal choice. 10% of the time I eat stuff like a slice of pizza or a 1/2 a burger. My blood work is great and my weight loss is higher than my doc expects me to lose. I'm only 2mo post op.

At 9 months out' date=' I have found I LOVE their grilled chicken club, minus mayo and bun. Lots of Protein. You can always just order it with no mayo and throw the bun away. Breakfast wise the egg mcmuffin minus the muffin is good too.[/quote']

Why can't we eat carbs? I'm 3wks out and have lost 21 lbs.

Some people have an easier time losing weight on a low carb diet. Even with WLS, carbs can slow down some people's weight loss. Usually it's women who have slower metabolisms due to age, medical conditions, or other things.

I didn't have to do a low carb diet to reach my goal weight in 8 months, but it varies from person to person.

I think the snack wrap was a perfect choice, myself. I'll sometimes order a grilled chicken sandwich plain and ask for dipping sauce. I've even eaten mcnuggets on occasion. I do NOT eat fries anywhere but at Dale's BBQ (local joint). They have steak fries that are delicious, but I can only eat 1 or 2 of them.

JetPilot, You can eat a whole big mac plus a small fries? You must have an extremely long stomach, so I'm assuming you are tall and male. LOL I don't think I could handle even half a big mac now, at 8.5 months out, even with removing part of the bun. That's a huge amount of carbs and calories, two things I don't count, but it's almost my entire day's worth of food in one meal. Can you eat anything else the same day you do something like that?

I try to be careful and eat as healthy as I can but I also don't deprive myself. That's how I got fat in the first place by constantly crash dieting..avoiding anything that was "unhealthy" and tasted "good... eventually I would go back to my old habits and eat triple the bad stuff because I'd miss it sooo much. I had and probably still have emotional eating issues but I was a volume eater. Since eating a 1/4 or less of what I used to,,I can eat what I like and still lose weight. I've eaten at alot of restaurants and either share my meal or save left overs. I've lost slowly but steady. I'm also excercising regularly and that makes a big difference. Don't beat yourself up over a chicken wrap. I've had them several times,,even with the tortilla. Sleevetta doesn't like carbs that much,,makes the stuck feeling and sometimes I can't keep them down. meat does very well in my tummy so it's become easy for me to not eat as many carbs..but if I want something like a cupcake,,I'll have a few bites with no guilt.

I had the honey mustard grilled wrap today, I unwrapped the chicken, took of Half the shell scraped off some sauce and wrapped it back up. About 200 calories 13 grams of Protein. I just ate lower fat stuff the rest of the day. Everything in moderation!

I can eat 80-90% of Big Mac with the middle bread removed and maybe half of the small fry. If I do I'm stuffed. I'm 3mo out and I did it twice. I'm a 41yo active male. My doc says I have a long torso. I found that if I keep my calories too low (800) I don't lose weight. I need about 1200-1400 per day to lose weight.

My typical day consists of a grilled chicken breast on 1/2 a bun with a little caesar dressing on top. I'll eat a slice of whole wheat toast with 2 tbsp of Peanut Butter and a cup of skim milk. Later another cup of skim milk, and a piece of whole wheat bread with about 4oz of Boars Head ham. I also eat about 1/2 cup of almonds or peanuts a day.

I think once in a while you can eat what you want. I'm not like most people here. I eat whenever I'm hungry. Since my pre-op diet on 03/03 til 05/15 I lost 50lbs. If I'm at a party and someone hands me a piece of cake I eat it until I have had enough which isn't very much. I don't deny myself anything. I'm not a comfort eater and luckily don't crave things often. My wife and I went away on vacation this past weekend. We always stay at the same hotel. I ordered the same food I ordered when I stayed before I had my procedure. But Instead of having a whole burger I shared 1/2 of it with my wife. I had one or two french fries. Before my sleeve I could eat the whole burger and the whole order of fries. I came home after a 4 day vacation of eating 1/2 burgers for lunch and still lost 2 pounds in 4 days. My blood work was excellent and I'm off my cholesterol, triglyceride and bp meds so it's working for me. Everyone should do what works for them. I think people would be surprised if they let themselves indulge once in a while. The sleeve does all the work. But I understand some people can't have just a little and over eating is an issue.

BTW we have the same doc!

its ok to buy foods from fast food places..NOW the healthy items are the ones to buy. There is an iphone app that I have that shows all major US restaurants' date=' their menu, then the nutrition facts of each item. You can never go wrong with anything grilled chicken related (no buns) and an unsweet tea (especially if you're doing no carb like me). I do it all the time. Wendy's chili and KFC grilled chicken are high Protein packed fast food items[/quote']

What is the name of that app?

JetPilot, It sounds like you're doing well with your sleeve and what you are doing is working for you, which is great! My sleeve doesn't like bread or Pasta very much, so I avoid both. However, I'm in the camp that doesn't believe in "good" or "bad" food. I eat what I want to eat, work out religiously, and I'm at nearly 100 pounds lost. I believe that this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. I want to eat like a normal weight person eats, meaning that I can have what I want to eat, just less of it.

You said we have the same doc? Dr. Domkowski did your sleeve? YAY! I adore Dr D, as I've said constantly. How does that work with you living in NY? Or did you move after you were sleeved?

I am very sensitive to carbs. I go over 30 I will stall so I usually get a fish sandwich and no bun or a grilled chicken sandwich. You are right its very filling.

I would have a look at the websites for the places your boss is likely to go and mentally decide NOW what you will order if this ever comes up again. Also, you can feel free to say no to a drink and just mention you are trying to drink more Water. Most people understand that. I am already finding that this surgery is all about pre-planning. Also, I would not tell someone in my office I need them to go somewhere else just for me. Just have some things to fall back on. This is likely to happen again (whether it be your boss or out with friends). If you are prepared it won't throw you :) Good luck!

You can eat carbs. You SHOULD eat some carbs. In fact, your brain and body use it as fuel. You just want to focus on healthy carbs. The ones that come from "white" foods usually are not the healthy kind. I am particularly sensitive to carbs but need them to fuel my workouts and my graduate studies so I eat them. What this means for me is that I lose about 3-4 lbs a week instead of maybe 5 or 6. I am okay with that because then I am not as tired all the time and I can think to write the many papers you need to in grad school. Also, my breath doesn't stink anymore from the ketosis from a no carb diet. Don't get me wrong, I still don't get in a quarter of what I used to (I am focused on Protein primarily) but no carbs is not a great idea.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
