I self-paid in Florida. $12,500, including doctor, hospital and anesthesia. WORTH every penny, IMO. I've finally stopped wanting to kiss my doctor's feet every time I walk in his office, but it's tough. :) He gave me back my life.

This is good to know.. not as high as I thought it would be. Dh is not a fan of me going to Mexico if the insurance won't cover it and I'm trying to give him an idea of what it would cost if we had to pay for it ourselves..

I'm fairly sure my insurance will cover it though.

Why won't insurance cover the sleeve for all of you? Just because you don't meet the BMI and such? After seeing how expensive it is. I feel so blessed. My insurance covered my surgery 100%

I'm self-pay. I ended up at $15,100 total with administrative fees and a little extra for blood work that didn't go through my insurance company. The fee includes everything at the hospital and one year of followup appointments with the surgeon (about one every 6 weeks after the initial one about a week after surgery). We financed it, so we will end up paying a lot more over time, but it was worth my peace of mind to have a local surgeon.

Katieb - my insurance doesn't have any kind of weight loss surgery. There is a weight loss surgery rider that my husband's company did not opt to add to their plan. Therefore, I did not have an option for insurance to pay regardless of my BMI or any comorbidities I may have.

Wow.. everyone's seem to be cheaper than what I have to pay. 16620.00. Includes pre op and post op for a year. I will have about 500.00 more in expenses after the surgery for lab fees. I paid cash 6 thousdand and financing the rest. I hope I feel it is worth it after next monday... :) I'm worried since my insurance has an exclusion on the policy... won't pay for complications either. I pray I don't have any.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
