I Have To Cancel My Surgery. So Upset.

Recommended Posts

My husband says it looks like things are really slowing down at work and he's afraid we might not be able to pay the monthly payments on the self-pay surgery like we'd planned, so I have to call tomorrow and cancel my appt w/ dr aceves. I'm going to look further into the insurance route. Maybe anyway- my bmi is 39.9 and as far as I know, I dont' have an co morbidities other than depression. Surely 39.9 is close enough to 40!

I'm so heartbroken. I was just heading out to get my passports when he came in the door from work and told me that. I had to go for a drive and just cry. After I scheduled that appt, I've been in SUCH a good mood, so happy because there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Now it;s just gone.

He says that next spring (tax time) we can do it with cash, which is great, but that's such a long time away. :(

I am going to call about insurance tomorrow.

well on teh bright side, I get to keep my iphone 4s that I was going to stop paying to help w/ the cost of the surgery paymetns. lol (must make light of it)

I am sorry that you have to cancel the surgery. That really sucks. I hope that you guys are able to figure something out so that you can get it sooner than next year. Maybe the insurance research will pan out for you... {{{HUGS}}}

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm kinda in the same situation because the loan I got approved for doesn't fund loans outside the US anymore. I'm hoping I get good news tomorrow because there's still a possibility. Best wishes to you

I am sorry to hear that! that does suck. I am glad you are looking in the bright side of things. I am having my surgery May 10th with dr. Ponce de leon in Tijuana, he is also very good, and has been a surgeon for many many years. He is much cheaper than Dr. Aceves ($5500) so that might be a little more doable if at all. You are very close to 40, only a few pounds, drink a lot of Water before going to the doctor LOL. I am sure everything will eventually workout. Good luck and keep the good attitude :-)

lol another friend suggested that i drink a lot of Water and not pee when i go, hahaha. i know kathy griffen used to have a show and when she was married, her husband wore ankle weights to be weighed, because they had told him at his last appt that he wasn't heavy enough. HAHA. so bad!

i will talk to my dr about dr Ponce. i think he'll still say CASH. bah!

I'm calling ins companies today to see what other criteria i have to meet.

thank you girls for the kind words and sweetsusie- i hope you get great news tomorrow!!!

My BMI was lower than that but I had high blood pressure and type II diabetes which qualified me with the insurance company. Do you have any problems which may qualify you?

DH-Dear husband, usually. When I use that abbreviation, it's short for Richard Cranium. ;)

Every time I read about people's insurance not covering the procedure...I realize how blessed I am. Don't give up & pray. I believe GOD has the last say on everything.

Have you had a sleep study done? Sleep apnea is considered a co-morbidity. I know that helped to push me to get insurance coverage even though I have a much higher BMI.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
