Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Emotional First Aid is great. There is another one called something like The First Year and it has a woman on the cover and was written by her. Look up "vertical sleeve" in books and it will come up. There is another one called Success Habits and it isn't only about the sleeve but also the other surgeries because the long term issues are similar. It's really good and there's a program you can join after to get other training, though it seems to be mostly in the US.

How is everyone doing? I have a head cold which is no fun, but the scale is dropping like its out of style. Looks like I will have a nearly 3 kg loss this week! Then I have a colonoscopy Thursday which means liquid diet Wednesday and Thursday so I might have a good loss next week too. I'm only 6 kg from surgeon's goal, which is also the lightest my husband has ever seen me (in 2003). That puts me at the top of the Overweight range and I know I won't want to stop there. I'd like to hit that goal by the 6-month mark and I'm at 4.5 months now. As of today I'm unofficially halfway to my ultimate personal goal.

After reading this it made me stop and think about wether I will ever be that confident to do the same as you did? I guess I'll ask myself the same question after 70kg ha ha

You dont know what the new confident you can do. Not sure it was confidences but I did feel at ease with it, putting rumours to rest etc.

You can see all the changes people make when we feel better about ourselves

Great work Misty - I have no doubt that you will make it into the healthy weight range no problem!

Yes Aussiegirl I agree, it is often just subtle changes to your confidence that make you happy to put yourself out there. I have found that I want to go out more and things that were an effort for me are not such a mountain to climb - even simple things like driving across town to catch up with old friends. I never wanted to do that and I think it was because I didn't want them to see how much bigger I had got since that last time they saw me...now I just want to show off how much smaller I am!

OMG - on a health note - I vomited the other day after eating a pear too fast.I think it was too fibrous for me so it just couldn't go down. Anyway, for the last two days after this episode I have found it difficult to eat - kind of a burning sensation when the food hit my stomach. I was really worried I had done some serous damage..anyway I seem to have come right. The moral of the story everyone is be very careful - here I am 14 months out and I can still make that mistake!

I am still on Nexium and tried to go off it but it was just too uncomfortable so it looks like I am one of those people that will be on it for the rest of my life. A pity but not enough to ever make me have any regrets. I will also be on osmolax for the rest of my life too...opposite problem to what you have Misty.

Other than that, all good here ...still maintaining at around 60 and eating what I like..except pears!!

I ran 7.3 km in 70 minutes today!

That's awesome Misty! Congrats on the weight loss.

I think I am going to b one of those people who lose slowly. I am still losing though, so I shouldn't complain. It is disheartening though.

Don't lose heart. We all go at different rates and as long as it keeps going down that's all that counts. I am a slow loser, but it took me 20 years to put on 40 kilos, so if it takes me 2 years to get it off that's ok. Hang in there.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
