Hi all my Sleevers friends

Sorry I haven't dropped by for a while' date=' have been launching our new business into Australia and NZ which has been full on, so with myself also working full-time, raising 4 children plus 1 new grandchild and fitting in my workouts 6 days per week, spare time is something I do not have. Whilst hubby is in Sydney today for our business, a great opportunity for me to catch up on our thread to see how everyone is going <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Our new business is offering healthy black coffee, latte, green tea, mocha and hot chocolate - all infused with Ganoderma Lucidum <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I would love to send you all some free samples and get your opinion. Send me your address via email or text to my mobile 0488136443 and I will put some in the mail to you all....

Our website is http://www.ogpreneurs.organogold.com/r/AU/index.html if you want to check it out

I don't like talking business on this site but as we are all on this journey to change our lives for the better and live a healthy and productive lifestyle, I would welcome you all to give my coffee a try, that's all....

So I really hope everyone is doing well. I am nearly at my 12 months out (July 20, 2012) and I am down 50kgs, with about 7kgs to go to my goal. Life is awesome and every single day is a blessing to me <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Love to you all

Congratulations' date=' Kim! How are you feeling? How is your recovery going?[/quote']

Sorry for my delayed reply. I'm well on the mend now eating soft food and back at gym (not quite back to gym normal but close). I lost 5 kilos in first 2 weeks but now I'm eating under 500 calories a day, working out each day and only loosing 100 grms a day seems crazy, a lot less than expected

Be patient, it's normal to stall at the 3-5 week point. I'm only losing a kilo a week right now but I won't let it bother me. I'm in it for the long term. So are you! Congrats on the gym. I haven't done more than walking yet.

NSV while camping. I felt comfortable in pretty short shorts (there were very few people around). These shorts are special. When I did my knee and had to have ACL reconstruction in 2010, I had to go through 12 sessions of intense physio. I owned no shorts and needed some for physio. They had some I could borrow but the biggest ones were literally skin tight. After the first session I went to Target and bought the biggest shorts they had in "track pant" fleece material. They were still embarrassingly tight but I soldiered through the physio. These shorts have been with me since, and when I got below 90 kg on Optifast I could wear them. I was so happy. The lowest I ever got on Optifast was 85. Now that I am again below 90 I can wear them in public again and they are looser than they were last time! I can't wait until they are too big!

Another NSV is I caught myself crossing my legs a few times. I can't do it well yet but it has been years since I even tried. Clearly my legs are feeling slimmer to me.

I ate ice cream today. 3/4 of a Magnum Gold. It went down shockingly well so I will need to be careful about that! I didn't feel guilty because of how little I could eat yesterday and all of the walking over the past three days. And this is the first time in my life I didn't finish an ice cream!

Woohoo Liss!!!! How young and funky do you look!!

Misty has been so good in sharing her eatting so close to post op. I thought I would share a normal day for me, at almost 21 months post op and pretty much maintaining my weight.

Breakfast

3 scoops of greek yoghurt with about 100 gms of Special K (I eat this out of a coffee mug)

lunch

Today i had left over lasagne I made last night , approximate size (yes I got the ruler out) 10cm by 5 cm. I was full after this.

I can usually almost finish sandwich, usually have like 90% of a sandwich

dinner

Palm size piece of Protein (depending on the type could be more, could be less, fish can eat a larger portion) with some veggies usually a few pieces of like brocoli, carrot, cauliflower, corn. I eat those frozen veggie packets and can have about half of those with some Protein

dinner tonight tho will likely be more left over lasagne (tried to make a small one but still works out to be about 5 meals)

I do snack during the day, depending on a number of things this can be anything from fruit to a cupcake, crackers..

I usually drink about 6 cups of green tea a day (yes i know it is excessive) but in winter keeps me warm and some days i still have some issues with Water.

On top of this I work out 5-6 times a week as well as walking pretty much everywhere.

So to you newbies, it definitely gets more normal. If I go out to eat which I do frequently, i usually order an entree (appetizer) to eat or get share plates with friends. Most people who have come into my life dont really notice, just that I eat only small amounts, not freakishly small amounts...if that makes sense.

Hey y'all!

So today I went to see Darrin for my almost one year check up. On his scales, I have officially lost 50kg and said to him that I want to get to 68kg....so a 60kg loss and he was happy with that number.

He asked how I'm going food wise and I said have my good days and bad days, meaning some days I can eat more than others. Everything is going down as it should and I don't have any vomits, just slight pain when I've overdone it.

He also examined my stomach and said that there was some 'jelly' there and I said that's why I wear these (Spanx) LOL.

Discussed removal of said excess skin and still told me to wait a year (ARGH torture) and also discussed which surgeons I should see and I told him of a few names and he agreed with me. Didn't discuss exact procedures, but I'm definitely looking at a whole body lift, arms and boobs (the surgeon I want to see does good boobs according to him LOL, which is why I want to see her).

I see him again in January for the next check up.

Will post new photos when I've officially hit the one year mark on 26 June.

Thanks for sharing, Aussiegirl. That is really helpful to me.

Nessa, 50 kg is awesome! Congratulations. I am sure I will have some "jelly" too!

As for me? I have an appointment with my gp tomorrow. I need a refill on my nexium and I want to see if he can solve the diarrhea. I have a call into my surgeon about that too.

I did have Cereal today. Uncle Toby's Protein. It was a nice change. lunch was one of those St Dalfour tinned meals. It was yum.

In the throat if I eat too much. Otherwise if I stop at the right time it's like my brain switches off the urge to eat.

We are having homemade hot and sour Soup for dinner. My husband is making it now. I have such a craving.

Oh oh! You know that rule about no straws? Today I used one of those plastic tumblers that looks like a soft drink cup, but reusable and with an acrylic straw. I drank a lot more Water than usual and no problem with air in my stomach. Your mileage may vary but I had no trouble!

In the early days I did get that sensation if I ate too quickly or didn't chew enough - I felt like the food was stuck - it probably was! The surgeon told me that if you wait about five minutes after you first two bites, your little stomach will have relaxed a bit and it will be easier to eat the remainder of your meal . Just take it slowly and eat moist food - I am right into the slow cooker at the moment!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
