Hi all- a quick progress shot :) down 77 kg and it's 9 months post sleeve. I have 5 kg to my surgeons goal and about 20 until mine (although once I hit the surgeons goal, I will just keep losing until I am happy with how I look and my body will also let me know I dare say about where it wants to sit lol). Have a happy Thursday!

Ugh I have already noticed I am using food for entertainment again! I got busy at worn and skipped morning snack. That made me feel like I "deserved" a treat after dinner. I had a tbsp of smooth Peanut Butter and one of those Soleil Desserts. Yes I journaled it and yes I was under 900 calories for the day' date=' but it was not a wise choice! I got less than 50 g of Protein today. I should have had a shake for dessert. I know I'm bored alone in my house and food is what I have always done. I also noticed how much entertainment I seem to need. Eating, reading on the iPad, and watching TV all at once. Don't normal people do one of those at a time!? I feel like a wacko. Mostly I feel like if I am already eating crap, how am I going to stay on the straight and narrow?

Bring on June 11 when my husband comes home and I can start soft foods.

Hi Misty, you are not a wacko! You are a woman who can multi task to perfection. Nothing wrong with that. I do it all the time. Re choices, we have a food habits ingrained over a lifetime and getting a sleeve doesn't change that thought process. Luckily if we make unwise choices we an only eat a small amount so it has little impact. I ate some potato chips yesterday as I drove over 500kms in between appointments. It was boredom and habit plus being Coeliac and needing gluten free meant finding healthy options at garages is i possible. I should have though ahead and taken Snacks and lunch with me. Don't beat yourself up.

Hi Misty- I think we all struggle with this. A few things- first you have quickly identified that this is an issue for you. That is great! But you need to develop strategies to manage this. Some things I am using include: drinking Water with lime etc and lots of ice' date=' a big glass (200 ml) which usually means I any eat for quite a while anyway. I then try to follow this with a distraction - at the moment it is scrabble on my iPhone :) or yoga (although I can only do about 10 mins of that at a time lol). To help motivate me I might look at clothes online (birdsnest is brilliant and I just got the cutest dress lol- pics to follow). Whatever works for you- the cognitive trick is to STOP, think about your options and make a choice (& OWN that choice, good or "bad").

With the perfectionism - start thinking about where this has gotten you. I have no doubt that it helps drive you to excellence which is great!! But when it gets a bit out of control it can be debilitating and no doubt contributes to some of your "failures". I know that for me, my perfectionism gets out of control and I put ridiculous expectations on myself that I can never meet- I realised that there was a function to that behaviour. It meant I always had an "out" cause there was no way I could follow through with my expectation (self-sabotage in other words). I find this is the biggest thing I have tried to change post surgery.

I am still making mistakes. I get quite stressed at work and go too long without eating (I haven't eaten more than half a banana in two days) which is no good for my health or recovery I know and doesn't help with weight loss cause my body goes into "shock" and I hardly lose a thing. So managing my stress better is paramount. It feeds into the perfectionism too which is my challenge right now. So know that we all have our demons :)

Misty, as the others have already said. It is good that you have indentified the behaviour. You can address and be aware of it. Early on I can relate to the changes you need to make, and can say it does help with the long term results. If you can identify the behaviour and look for another way of expressing, or dissapaiting it. For me for example I am/was a stress eatter, tho I have worked hard to find other ways to work through this without food being the default, while I wont say I never stress eat, i do but do a series of other things, exercise, vocalise etc before I get to the eatting stage, works about 80% of the time for me.

Anyway, you have identified and just need to find a way that works for you. You are strong and I am sure you will.

In regards to the need for entertaining, you are not alone and I dont think this change of food related. I think we all are often engaged in 3 different activities at once, TV, computer, phone, human etc....it is part of life nowadays, always available etc

And YAY the Blues!!!

Apparently not.

As a result, hospital staff are in the process of contacting 1400 patients who have been discharged from the hospital since May 25.

hi Bec,mine didn't work till about day5.And even then it was more liquid than anything ele.Im 2weeks one day out and I have become more regular in the last few days.

Oh and Lissa you look amazing!!!! I hope my loss goes as well as yours.Mine has slowed up.Lost first week and a half but now it has stopped .Didnt expect it to stop yet.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
