Hi Everyone

Five and a half weeks post op. This is a bit of an odd question (I'm good for those), but how do I know if I'm eating right for my sleeve? I tend to eyeball my portions and only eat till I feel comfortably full. I've never had discomfort (oh, only once) and I've never vomited. Discomfort and vomiting are obviously reliable indicators you've over eaten, but I'm wondering if it is possible to stretch your sleeve if you always eat until full - comfortably full. I seem to be able to get a load of fluids in - 400ml shake in 1/2 hour, more quickly if it's Water. I also eat around 1/2 - 3/4 cup of reasonably thick food (like pureed stew) in without much trouble. I guess I'm just neurotic because I'm NOT measuring every little thing and perhaps not being vigilant enough.

Thanks for your replies!!

liquids will pass through your sleeve quickly, so you'll definitely be able to go through those quickly and likely feel almost no restriction. As for food, I also don't measure. I go by feel, and it certainly changes from one day to the next. Sometimes I can finish a whole greek yogurt with granola, sometimes I can only finish half. Based on all the posts I've seen here, ab's research I've done, it doesn't appear that you can really stretch the stomach that much.

Listen to your hunger and the way your body reacts. Once I was on solids I averaged 5 normal bites per meal. DO NOT graze that makes life suck when it comes to the weekly weigh in! I am now 8 months out and manage 10-15 bites til full.

Please remember that we are all different and if you are like me you need a tool to help you guage choices. Myfitnesspal.com and the smartphone app are awesome for making sure you are where you need to be.

Let me know if I can be of assistance. Sykpe, Facebook, vst or phone. Let me know.

Brook

So I see many post that they can only eat a bite or two and the are full... That is not me. I just ate a scrambled egg and I swear I am still hungry! I only had surg 2 weeks ago so I am just now going to soft foods. I really hope that I start to feel full now that I am off liquids.< /p>

Thanks Brook, Jazzie, dio, hollie and Jan. I guess it is just a case of listening to your tummy. I managed to eat a whole small piece of quiche last night (without the hard bit of the crust). I was full afterwards and couldn't have fit another thing in, but not uncomfortable. I'm just frightened of inadvertently stretching the sleeve - without being aware of it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
