Dimple/hole/dip Incision On Stomach

Recommended Posts

Hello All! I was wondering if anyone else has this Dimple, Hole, Dip on your stomach where the incision is where they took the stomach that was cut off at? It's like a dip on the left lower side of my stomach. :-/ I'm really concerned about it. The Surgeon said it "Should" go away when I lose weight. I would just like to know if anybody else had/has this and if it ever went away. Thanks in Advance for your response :-)

My biggest incision is on my right side and it is slightly indented like that also from where they sutured internally . This other lady I met at the dr office had the same thing but hers was really noticeable but she was also a lot larger than I was so maybe it will go away as we lose weight ?!

I don't have that, but a smaller one that got infected looks wonky. It's darker and bigger than the other scars.

i didnt have this but i do have different healing of the scars.....I had 2 right next to eachother....same size and everything...I was noticing that while one is barely visible anymore the other is still bright pink.....wth? I had 5 all total, and the 3 others were very small, and you cant even see those anymore, which i am thankful for, but the one in the very middle, right above my belly button has to be bright pink? it sucks.....oh well, when I have my Tummy Tuck it will be gone anyways! lol

hope yours flattens out! :)

Yes, I have this too. If you watch videos, like on UTube, of the procedure, you'll see that they put a "thing" that looks like a cylinder in that particular incision. That is where they fill you with gas and pull your excised stomach out. On one video it looked like, from the INSIDE, that at the base of the cylinder something rotates in a circle to clear the area away. This would essentially push the fat out of the area causing this indented area. Mine is already less noticeable.

I had the same thing and I believe I have a pic of it in my gallery. It has gone down considerably as I've lost fat from my stomach (but you can still see it if I lean forward at just the right angle) It's one of my battle scars so if it doesn't go away completely, I'll still be proud of it

I don't have this, but I have a sister in law that does. She had an ovarian cyst the size of a two liter bottle (full !) removed from her abdomen. They took it out like they did our stomaches. When they stitched her up, her incision fell in with a pit about the size of a tennis ball. All I can figure is that there was nothing there to hold it up any more. The doc was not concerned with it. *shoulder shrug* ?

Going on 1 1/2 years post-op here. Mine was indented and bright red for a long time. Now I can barely see it. It is just slightly raised and slightly darker than the surrounding skin - just about like any other scar I have - and I unfortunately have lots of them :(

It largely depends on your skin type, you can judge the potential results by other scars you may have.

I had the same thing. It goes away. Mine was the size of a tennis ball! There is a picture of it in my gallery if you want to take a peek. It went away pretty quickly though.

I had a super indent at that incision! It looked a lot skinnier than the rest of my stomach, heh. I asked my surgeon about it and he said it's because of how that particular incision is stitched. I'm a little over 2 weeks post op and it's pretty much gone, just a little tiny dip now.

I have one too. It is like a big chunk out of there. It is funny.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
