O my question is why no caffeine before or after surgery

My understanding is that it irritates the stomach.

That's my understanding also. I was told I can have it up to when I do the pre op diet...then I have to give it up till the sleeve heals. My NUT says I can have it after she heals IF my sleeve tolerates it...some will some won't...I sure hope mine does...I have 4 kids. NUFF SAID!!

I love my ice tea, not a coffee drinker any more and not a soda drinker, and would not recommend having soda for about 2 weeks before surgery because the carbonation causes horrible gas! But I just don't see how tea can cause that much irritation, I guess there is a reason for everything though

I have switched to tea sweetened with the no calorie sweetener. Man I love tea. I hope I can still drink that too!!

Caffeine stimulates the appetite as well; something we're looking to avoid after being sleeved.

coffee is one of the things I will miss the most. But I drink coffee because I don't have energy. I'm hoping after the surgery I will start to feel my natural energy, and won't need that jump start.

I do the same. I really hope I have more energy when drop the pounds. I didn't realize it increases appetite. It's just so yummy! By far the hardest habit to break for me.

I didn't really have any caffeine restrictions either pre- or post-op. My NUT wants me to limit my intake to two caffeinated beverages a day. I was a serious coffee drinker prior to the surgery but I have temporarily given it up for the time being (I'm not really into the whole banning things for life with regards to things I can have). I still enjoy a good cup of tea though and I do my English Breakfast Tea quite a bit without any problems.

At 3 months out I decided to have coffee again I always enjoyed 2 or three cups in the AM. I had it twice that week followed by tummy ache. Decided to stick to Decaf which works OK. At 14 weeks I tried again my nofat sugar free vanilla Latte! Followed in the afternoon with grumbly tummy ache guess I better stick with decaf! Tummy doesn't like caffiene anymore. Maybe I will try in 3 more months?

I'm still pre-op so I can't comment on the decaf post op, but I started doing half decaf and half regular and I can tell the difference.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
