Am I Being Impatient?

Recommended Posts

So the month of April has been a busy one. I got ALL my pre-op tests done. I was so excited to see my surgeon on Thursday because I thought we would be submitting to insurance.....WRONG. He hasnt recieved all the test results back to his office yet. Even though I passed each test (Psych eval, PT, ect) he said sometimes it takes a little longer to recieve. I was so upset. I had everything done at HIS hosptial so sending the results wouldnt take extra time.He told me to come back in two weeks. *sighs* A part of me knows I shouldnt be so upset because this is going fairly quickly. Another part of me is upset because Ive been overly stressing about the insurance part of this surgery. Now these extra 2 weeks just gives me more time to think about the "what-ifs". I just hope in two weeks the results will be there. Should I call in a week and see what progress has been made? I would hate to travel all the way back to the office just to be told to come back (and not to mention pay another copay again for nothing) .I dont want his office to think im imaptient though *sighs* :-/

It is very reasonable to wait a week and call. That way, if you find out the results are in, you'll be even more excited and gladly make the drive for the next visit!

What kind of insurance do you have? I had to follow a six month diet of logging and turning in every thing I ate, the psych eval, sitting in weight loss surgery classes, going to group meetings, etc. I had all the testings done, sleep studies (once a year), EKG's, Stress tests at my cardiologist, colonoscopy's, endoscopies, and six months of meetings with their bariatric specialist, nutritionist, etc. and my second meeting with surgeon on April 18th. I was told they would fax everything by the end of the week. I called BCBSIL yesterday and they said it's in with medical review and now, I'm feeling exactly like you, concerned, impatient and stressed. I will probably check in with the insurance company on Monday, though I should probably wait until Tuesday.

good luck.

I honestly can't comment on the insurance issue, as I did not go through that. I had my surgery 13 months ago in Korea (where I am working: March 2011). I paid for this privilege, and it was the best decision I had ever made. My only wish was that the sleeve had been available 30 years ago. Please look to the distant future...not next week or next month. So yes, you are being impatient. There are thousands without insurance or the money to have this procedure. We worry far too much about things over which we have no control (speed of insurance ?). You have probably fought with your weight issues for a long time...so think long term, and that that fight may be over soon. It is such a great tool, be grateful for the opportunity to come. Good luck.

I think you should call and if they seem frustrated with your call just tell them you are trying to say the dr time and save yourself the co-pay. It is hard to wait...but from this side of the fence that long wait and all the hoops were worth it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
