I Am So Afraid For My Mom... She's Going To Be Sleeved.

Recommended Posts

My mom is going to be sleeved hopefully this year. Tomorrow she has her psych appt. I don't know how my mom was able to support my decision to go under the knife. I am afraid for my mom, how about if there are complications and she dies? I don't want anything bad to happen to my mom :( What will I do without her... just very worried. She is a good candidate for this surgery. She is 54yrs young, asthma, depression, borderline diabeties, arthritis, nothing major. sigh... I just am a worry wart. She is approx 4ft 10 and weighs 220lbs, so she does need this surgery. It's hard for me not to worry.

I understand completely. My mother had surgery two months after me. She had a complication which would have been mild if she would have received care when she started experiencing symptoms, but she waited until six months post-op to seek treatment. In all honesty, complications occur pretty infrequently with the sleeve. Just pay attention to her symptoms and trust the surgeon to do his or her best. I will be keeping you and your mother in my thoughts.

Just trust that your mom will be ok. This sounds like a life saving decision that she has made. Trust in God. ;)

She'll get through this....you did!

And try to keep in mind that your anxiety now is temporary. But if she doesn't have the surgery, you will spend the last many years of her life worrying about her health problems and overall condition.

Now you can look forward to enjoying many happy healthy years together, doing activities neither of you would have ever contemplated doing before having the VSG. If I could have done something wonderful for my Mom like that to extend her life, I would have given almost ANYTHING.

:)

I am 64 years old and just got sleeved last month. Everything went just fine and all is A-okay to this point. Your Mom is going to be more than fine and she's going to be around longer to enjoy her wonderful, caring daughter. Best of luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
