Stall Or Plateau Worries?

Recommended Posts

I don’t understand all the worry about plateau’s and stalls. It can be frustrating to not lose weight at times, but haven’t we got the rest of our lives? We are always going to have a stomach that’s 15% of what it used to be. How can we not lose our weight over time?

Please don’t get me wrong! I empathize with everyone when it comes to weight loss expectations. I just think that getting on the scale all the time is like when you were a kid and you watched the clock and waited for the final bell at the end of the school day. The more you watch the clock, or scale, the slower the time seems to move or weight loss happens. Sleevers will then tend to get discouraged because it’s not happening fast enough. Remember, the up side to slower weight loss is less saggy skin.

I know I’m probably the “odd duck” because I rarely get on the scale, except to perhaps update my ticker. I feel a whole lot better and more successful when I see my clothes get looser and my old “skinny” clothes come back out of the closet. That is success to me, not some number on the scale.

Am I looking at this wrong?

No you're not looking at it wrong. It makes a lot of sense. But you have people like myself who want to see quick results because I read about people losing quickly and have friends that lost quickly and I want that to be me. So im obsessive. I want so badly to not fail and it's very psychological to me. I wish I could be patient but I'm not Lolol. It's something I need to work on.

I understand completely. It's funny because I'm usually that way with most things. Thank goodness I'm not that way with weight loss. I'm off to a great start with my weight loss, but I know I'll get where I need to be eventually.

I couldn't agree with your philosophy more! As long as we aren't trying to defeat our sleeves by eating the wrong stuff, it IS going to work.

Fitting into smaller clothes is SO FUN! I like to see the scale go down too because I'm really competitive ... with myself. When I set out to do something I like to get it done in the shortest time possible. That's with everything and not just weight loss. Hell, I even got an accelerated college degree ;)

I do see your point, but I'm in a stall and it's pissing me off. I know it will break, but I'm still P.Oed.

2 reasons why some people panic over stalls. 1) They just had major surgery that transformed their life forever. When they hit a stall, they wonder if it worked and WTH did they just do?! It's an uneasy, completely normal and natural reaction. 2) Many people want immediate results because we are, by nature, impatient. Nothing wrong with either of those two reactions. Most people just need to be educated. The stall is going to happen. Our bodies, for some reason, just have to do it. I never mind because I know that although the scale isn't moving, I am losing inches. Just know that everyone is different and most everyone have these very real feelings. You don't so that is good for you! BTW...Congrats! Looks like you are doing very well! :)

I like that you posted this. We worry so much about numbers, but you are right, this is our entire lives. We has this surgery to permanently help us stay healthy. What is a couple weeks, or even months or no loss? In te grand scheme of things, not much! Thanks.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
