Shocking Preop Diet Breakdown!

Recommended Posts

Surgery will be here on 4/23, so this is my 9th day of preop diet. It started as the others. I decided to do some self-care. Dyed my hair, pedicure, etc., took a shower. When I got out, my husband had made some bacon. That's all I could smell. I got weak (plus I was hot from my shower). I laid down and asked him to open the windows and doors to let the smell out which he quickly did, feeling bad. I suddenly felt like I was so very hungry. I laid down and yelled, "I LOVE BACON" and started to cry. Really cry - and I stuttered out, "I want some pizza!" In about 5 minutes, with husband and daughter reassuring me it's almost over, I was okay. I had an Unjury Protein Drink. Geez, I lost it there for a minute. I guess this might be what people mean when they say they get emotional?

This is what I am worried about! I start my preop on Monday 4/23 and naturally work will be stressed out. I am already channeling good thoughts. Are the drinks you have good. I have not heard of them before? Where did you purchase. Keep holding on - I am pulling for you. Good luck, Carol

I agree ... just hold on. The 23rd is so close. I know it's hard ... but it will be much easier once your stomach is smaller. And, you will have bacon and pizza again. Just not now.

Good for you for having a good cry ... we don't allow ourselves do that enough!

Carol - Unjury is good and recommended by the University of Michigan Hospital as the best Protein for preop - which is good enough for me! I do hate their chicken Soup though, while others love it. I use the vanilla and chocolate splendor. I also find it keeps me more satisfied longer than other brands such as Syntrax Nectar (which tastes great to me). They say Unjury is the absorbed easily by our systems. It's not cheap though and you can't buy it in stores. It's no cheaper on Amazon, so you might as well order from their website. 6.00 shipping, and 17 scoops in the container for 22.95. Hope this helps.

Thank Joni, I am actually liking the Premium Protein I purchased at costco. But will probably order some for variety. How do you put the weight ticker on your profile?

Joni hang in there. I know it's not easy, but after surgery .. I swear it's much much easier... you don't get the same hunger for a bit right after surgery. The 23rd is in the horizon girl... YOU CAN DO IT!

unjury is good. For a clear liquid Protein I am loving the Cytomax, still drinking them every day (tropical and tangerine flavors, I still haven't tried the watermelon yet). Premier Protein drinks rock... or at least I thought so before my leak. I have kinda stuck to clear drinks since then, thank God for Cytomax.

And Carol M., you put the tickers on your profile in your autosignature.... (click on your name at the top and choose 'my settings', then on the left side, options down on the left - one of which is autosignature). Go to any of the ticker sites and make your ticker, then copy the code and add it to your autosignature. Hope that helps!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
