4 Months Today And I've Lost 62 Pounds

Recommended Posts

I was sleaved on 12/12/11 and I weighed 261. Today the scale said 199. I'm doing great, but I have noticed my hair is falling out. Any tips?

Are you taking Biotin? If not, start now. It won't stop the falling out, but it will help with new hair growth. As a bonus, your nails will get stronger too. Also, make sure you are hitting your Protein goal every day. That will help to slow down the Hair loss, as well as encourage new growth.

I'm trying to grow my hair a bit longer, kind of stupid right after WLS, but that's how I roll! LOL I just had mine cut into a bob so that it won't look so thin and straggly as it grows out. My hairdresser said that the hair loss is improving.

Congrats on making it to Onederland!

Ditto on everything Lissa said, except I'm cutting my hair instead of trying to grow it out. It was falling out really badly, but has since slowed down. I keep it short because it looks thicker.

Good luck!

I cut my hair into a graduated bob before surgery in hopes that the loss wouldn't be as noticeable when it happened. I had already thinned badly from another surgery I had about 6 months prior, and I can't really bear the thought of losing much more, because I'll start looking like I have a real issue. Maybe when I get closer to goal I can get a cute pixie cut for summer! I've never had hair shorter than shoulders because of the fat face thing...

I was thinking the same thing! More towards the end of summer though - I have a wedding to go to at the beginning of June where I have to see an old flame - He's never seen me with long dark hair since I'm usually a beach blonde with a shoulder length cut. I'm kinda going for the wow factor but I definitely want to chop it all off when I get back ;-)

You are scaring me. I one month behind you. Before I heard that 3 months was the hair falling stage. Now I'm starting to hear 4 months. Crud.

Congratulations on hitting Onederland!

Thanks everyone. I hear that people with thick hair, seem to notice it the most, and I do have thick hair, but I have to admit, I'm scared to lose it. I guess I never saw anyone post that they went bald from having the sleeve. So I guess we just sit back and let it weed itself out. lol Again, thanks everyone, and remember, bald is beautiful.

My grey is right in the front and looks really cool so I highlight my hair and then the grey just blends in :)

Fluffy Libra, Coloring your hair won't tick it off. :) You'll just lose pretty colored hair instead of gray hair! Ask me how I know! :)

Oh great! I read stuff to that effect but I was still worried. I think I'll brave it out till closer to vacation. :-)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
