I plan on quitting my job that is providing the insurance that covers my surgery, after my surgery of course. I was wondering if there is any follow-up appointments they require post op? Or do you just get the surgery and bam, they are done with ya?

If there are follow-up appointments , how soon did your surgeon want to see you back and did he/she want to see you more that once?

Best regards,

Veronica ;)

You have a two week post op visit then a two month then it is out to six months. I would think you could go to your regular Doc after the first appt, I had staples removed then and talked to the nutritionist, she is checking to make sure you are getting the right amounts of fluids/protein, after that, I would think any Doc could handle it.

My surgeon only required 2 mo, 6, then year. Nothing else. I did have my regular checkup with my Primary Care Dr. and had bloodwork done, which I was glad of because my Vitamin D, Potassium and something else were extremely low! Kinda wish my surgeon had more visits but remember, they are SURGEONS! LOL That's all they do - then they turn you over to someone else!. Good luch

Thanks for the info Ladies. It sounds like I'll be staying at my job up to a month after my surgery. Maybe I'll get lucky and be on leave the entire month (and never go back (to work)). I can't wait to be a stay at home Mommy (can you tell LOL). :)

Depends entirely upon your surgeon. Would be great questions to ask. My surgery covered first 6 months follow-up. I went at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. Blood work at all to make sure I was getting in all my nutrients and losing as expected. Oh, I also have free support groups every Tuesday with either with a nutritionist leading the session or one of the surgeons or PT for life.

Follow up is EVERYTHING in my opinion. Wishing you the best of luck!

My surgery costs were all inclusive, so my follow-up appointments were included in the cost. I also got several meetings with a nutritionist and a personal trainer.

I had follow up 2 weeks, 1 month after that and have one schedule for 3 months after that one. I think there will probably be more but then I can just go to my primary occasionally to keep an eye on my Vitamins, etc. One thing to note, not sure if this matters as I am not an insurance expert, but my surgery was on 2/7 and my last claim for it was just processed last week by my insurance company. The follow up visits were covered as part of my surgery up to 3 months out, then I have to pay my copay again and submit the visit to insurance.

Thanks for all the info TraceyC and others. You guys are a big help. That's great information and something that never crossed my mind, Tracey. I work for Sutter Gould Medical Foundation and a Sutter Health Affiliate will be performing my surgery, so I am blessed to be covered at 100%. But I will definately be calling and asking them those questions.

Have a good evening everyone. ;)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
