Lol MNBsleeve. You are sweet. I knew what you meant. Thank you all for giving me all of this good info. I am just trying to piece it all together to get some sort of imagery. I realize my story will probably not end up looking like the image I am creating, but it does help to have something to go on.

Ghrelin is the hormone that stimulates appetite and it is produced in the fundus/ upper part of the stomach which is mostly removed with vsg. I agree with others that most of us who need this surgery probably have some food addiction issues and that head hunger is most likely the cause of feeling so hungry post op.

I an 2 weeks post op and had the terrible head hunger that some others mentioned. I even had a rant post about it. Couldn't believe it would get better but as the days go by it gets better.

I am 16 days post-op and I still get hungry. I am hoping that as I can add chicken, fish and eggs to my diet (more protein) that this will go away. I get full easily but two hours later I feel like I am starving!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
