Can I Have Corn? What About Coconut? Why Or Why Not?

Recommended Posts

I remember the list of foods, that I could never have again, one was corn. I have talked to others that say, they corn all the time. How about anyone else. The other was no coconut. Now I can see, that is a tuff to digest food. Has anyone eaten coconut? I just started eating my first salads, I'm 3 month 2 weeks out.

Me personally I eat corn quite often. popcorn, corn on the cob, Whole kernel... I have yet to experience any issues with it. In fact, I'd say it digests quite well!! Too well in fact.. LOL.. its a bit of a slider food for me.

I have not really tried coconut. I think I've had a very miniscule amount on perhaps one or two occasions and didn't have any problems. I have heard though it's hard to digest, and have only heard that here. I don't really go out of my way either to eat it, so never gave it any real thought on the validity of that claim.

If its something you are seriously considering eating, perhaps ask your surgeon what they think?

Good luck!

I have had corn several times but no coconut yet. I would call the Dr and ask for sure, good luck!

I don't think I was given a "Never again" list...

I eat corn quite often and have no problems. I've eaten some coconut in things like a cookie and it was also fine. I was also never given a list of forbidden foods by my nutri. everything is fine in moderation for me.

I love coconut but won't ever eat it again as it's on my never eat again list too. I've had a little corn in my salads without an issue. I was wondering about corn too. Do most people eat it?

My doctor told me I could eat anything at all in moderation. I guess each dr. is different. I eat corn, coconut whatever. The only thing I really can't tolerate is ice cream for some reason. It makes me so sick.

You're probably lactose intolerant. Happens to a lot of sleevers post op, in fact for me - high amounts of sugar all at once makes me sick, even this far out. I guess it's not a really bad thing!! I used to be able to attack some ice cream pre-sleeve. ;)

A bezoar is the word to search for on Google and the WLS sites. Raw coconut is fiberous. The skin of the corn nibblet falls into the same category. That is why you can see it, well ... after your body processes it ... sorry for the visual there, but ...

I read this before and it's why I'll never touch the stuff. Doesn't sound pleasant.

I must have one huge bezoar then. I eat lot of fibrous food like corn, pineapple, celery, asparagus, etc.

I eat a lot of fibrous foods too, but I didn't till I was more than 6 months out. Just had an artichoke yesterday - talk about Fiber, but so good!

I don't have a never again food list either. My doctor said anything in moderation. Can someone shine some light on this?

I have eaten both corn and coconut. I am 5 months out.

I was told I could basically have anything I wanted but in moderation. I definately would not eat tons of either but I love both so I plan to continue to have some.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
