Yesterday 3/20 I was sleeved. It's the morning after surgery as I'm writing this.

Surgeon says my surgery went just like in a textbook. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the good luck will continue.

Didn't get much sleep at all - nurses have been in and out of my room all night. At least some bring pain medicine with them.

Speaking of pain, the gas inside me us what hurts the most. That and trying to breathe. I'd thought for sure it'd be my stomach hurting, not my chest!

So glad to be "on the other side". I have a long way to go, but I'm ready!

Pretty good writing for the morning after! :)

Yes, that gas gets some folks. I understand that they balloon up your chest and belly area to give them room. Sometimes the gas goes to a shoulder for some reason. I never had a problem with it but a lot of folks do.

I had 2 surgeries close together; my gall bladder insisted on coming out 2 weeks before my sleeve surgery. Isn't that time displacement weird? I go to sleep and wake up, no sense of time passing. I always have something funny ready to say to the recovery room nurse. This time it was, "Was it a boy or a girl?" :o

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
