Recommended Posts

You are not hitting your goal. Body can only absorb 25 grams at a time. You drinking one with 42 grams only 25 is getting absorbed.

Just Google it. The 25 gram rule is a myth.

If you only absorbed 25 grams of Protein (100 cals) per sitting, it would be the best dieting trick ever. Eat a huge steak, only absorb 100 calories! I don't think so.

I was hoping you had a specific scientific study or peer-reviewed journal article from a science source that you could reference.

There is a great deal of easily accessible info out there. Just Google "25 grams of Protein myth" and you get both anecdotal evidence and peer reviewed studies.

The ASMBS is the leading organization in nutrition/vitamin/supplementation and following bariatric patients across America.

This is a HUGE medical read, but it's full of vital information for us. It explains everything from Vitamins, labs, and post-op diets and the "whys" behind everything.

If you would like to skip all the major reading, at the top of the PDF file, use the down arrow to get to Page S95 in the paragraph under Table 6, you will see that there is zero scientific evidence to support the 20-30gram Protein absorption myth. Page S93 starts the Protein talk and the whys behind the intake and need for protein after bariatric surgery.

Our bodies absorb what we eat. Every calories, carb, fat gram, protein gram. How it is assimilated, and processed is the key to absorption. How readily bioavailable that protein source is should be the real question, not how many gram we eat. It's even discussed why we should avoid collagen based Proteins since they are not complete Proteins.< /p>

My dr's deit was liquids for the first 6 weeks. That was 3 protien drinks and two yogurts totalling about 600 calories. During the weight loss stage, he said not to get over 800 calories.

1200-1400 sounds high.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
