Bethany' date=' how did you decide your goal weight? Is it based upon your ideal BMI?[/quote']

I decided it based on being the happiest with myself at that weight in the past. :]

Best wishes for a complication-free surgery and speedy recovery. The odds are on your side that you should do very well. I know you must have pre-op jitters and I do, too, because my surgery date is 3/28. Keep us posted!

Hi all, I am 18 days out. Put your jitters aside! I was pleasantly surprised at how "easy" the surgery was. My big advice- make sure you have an anti-nausea drug dose before you go down to have your leak test. The stuff is nasty, your throat is dry and it may make you feel sick. Also make sure you have one for the car ride home. I am on softs, my doctor is conservative so I am on blenderized oatmeal, soft cooked eggs, low fat creamed Soups. It's getting old, but for the first time in my life, I am not starving!! I do not do well at getting Protein, I get about 45 grams a day. My NUT says it's not great, but will be okay until I can have shaved deli meat next week. Best of luck to you all!! The pay off- -20 pounds in 18 days!!

What does NUT stand for?

What anti nausea medicine and what is a leak test?

haha sorry I'm clueless!! :)

and thank you so much for the encouraging words! I need them today---I'm freaking out a bit!

Nut is nutritionist....kind of appropriate! While you are in the hospital your doctor will leave orders for an anti nausea medicine such as Zofran or Phenigren, you may be nauseated after surgery. Before you can have liquids, you have to have a leak test where you have to drink a bubbly nasty drink (not much thankfully) and swallow so they can be sure you don't have a leak where the contents of your stomach are leaking into your body cavity.

I always get sick from surgery so I told them to light me up, I didn't want to wake up sick. The last thing I remember (rather embarrassingly) was saying "yeehaw" as they were pushing the gurney from holding and then waking up. maybe asking for extra anti anxiety drugs were a bad idea.....

I'm glad to have found someone my age going Through the same thing (i'm 23). You should ask your Dr if he requires the leak test after surgery because some Dr check before you even get off the operating table

OKAY....this cracked me up!!!!!! I can imagine the "yeehaw" on the gurney...that is too funny. It's amazing how well the anesthesia (sp) works...last thing I remember was saying repeatedly "Are you SURE I'm not going to be awake while you do the surgery?" I'm sure I said that like 4 x and apparantly it knocked me out soon after becuz I don't remember a THING after that!! Love it! :-)

I'm on 3/22 also. Anesthesia does strange things to me, so I always apologize ahead of time. I tell them to please forgive me for anything I might say, and that there's no way they can hold me responsible :tongue2: My daughter's a RN and she says that folks say all kinds of crazy stuff before surgery. I think they keep a log somewhere in her hospital, just so they can refer back to it for laughs.

I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am and surgery is scheduled for 7:30am, so please keep me in your prayers!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
