Your Healthy Go-To Food

Recommended Posts

I just have to point out that, while I liked fish before surgery, I absolutely love it now. I really didn't like shrimp before...love it....didn't like salmon...really love it. Sashimi is now my dinner of choice or I go to the fish market or grocery store and get a small hunk of it for dinner. And because I eat it more, my husband eats it more....in turn making him healthier too. And the best part, while it tastes absolutely fantastic...probably cause I'm lacking the nutrients fish offers....it is SO easy on the sleeve. chicken is okay, but can make me nauseous at times....fish never does.

Anyone else found a healthy food that they used to dislike "before-sleeve" but is now your go-to?

What a great topic, I look forward to all of the responses! I hated mushrooms all of my life but suddenly in the past 4 months I can't get enough of them, the way they soak up flavorings, with a little butter and salt and pepper, mmmmm!!!! Also, greek yogurt is a perfect sleeve food.< /p>

I don't think it's yummy, but I eat Protein Bars fairly often now...and I adore rotisserie chicken! :)

I love this topic! I actually havent found anything different, believe it or not. I was expecting to hate all kinds of things, like when I was pregnant but I can eat pretty much anything I did before. My go to food that I cannot get enough of is fish ceviche, I can eat it all three meals a day!!! B)

Like you, I've always liked fish but it's definitely my go to food now! I was never too fond of red meat but now I just can't stand the thought of it. Same for fried or fatty foods in general. I've always loved vegetables and still do! Yes, overall for me there's been a "switch" of some kind where I automatically turn to healthier foods easily. In fact, sweets or deserts I only need a taste literally and I feel I had a portion. I'm really happy with this and hope it doesn't change because it's really helped me not feel deprived in any way. For example, before I would pass on Pasta (which I LOVED) because I knew better. Now, when I pass I can take it or leave it! Or I can have a very small portion/taste and I feel like I had a full portion and I'm okay. Again, I just don't feel deprived!

I wanted to add that the one thing I miss is having those huge salads I used to eat! LOL I've always loved veggies, since I was a kid. But of course, pre-sleeve I would have HUGE salads. Now, since I focus on Protein first, and don't have much capacity, I generally get a few little leaves of something in and few other veggies... but not much! :-) I do juice vegetables to satisfy that craving! :-)

I used to not be very fond of Soups, (Admittedly because they took up too much room for the other not-so-good stuff I wanted to eat) and now I love a good soup!

I can't remember the actual name for them refried Beans maybe? Anyways I hated them before surgery and now I love them, we have a place by us called Taco Johns and I get their bean burrito, Yum-o. I can only take like 2 bites but I don't care that's usually my treat for something I have done exceptional like extra miles on the treadmill or something.

So are they called refried Beans? LoL They are those like smooshed up beans almost like bean dip I dunno whatever.

Yup, refried Beans. You can get them in the grocery store too. AND while they have a lot of carbs, they have a lot of Protein and the fat free ones still taste awesome. You can mix some cheese into them, microwave, and BOY are they tasted and sleeve friendly. My stomach does happy gurgles when I eat them :)

I still salads, but I load them w/ chicken, turkey, eggs, cheese and mushrooms... I can eat about a 3/4 cup of greens and a few oz of each topping... I found that depending on the dressing, I can eat more..

My go to is Protein shakes.. I'm so finicky, that i haven't settled on a few foods yet... besides cheetos.. and that's not a healthy choice!! LOL... pray for me and my cheeto addiction!!

I loved those salads too, with all the delicious veggies, so now when i want a salad ill save it for dinner. Then ill have a 30 Protein shake or shot for Breakfast, then another for lunch, then pig out on my salad for dinner without worrying i didnt get enough Protein.< /p>

Like MNB said, I've started going towards healthier, lighter foods but because I don't wanted feel awful and nauseous. I can't tolerate fried food at all anymore and sugar....in very very small quantities. Like MNB said, I'll have up to three very small bites of a dessert and then I'm done, otherwise I know I'll feel awful. And those are the fruity Desserts. I don't even try the over the top decadent ones because I know that one bite and I'm done.

My go-to for a little sweetness is kettlecorn. They have a couple different kinds in the grocery store. Two small handfuls satisfy me, don't overfill my sleeve and don't make me feel bad at all. But after that, I'm satisfied and don't need to eat the whole bag, which is great!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
