Sleeve And Perimenopause?

Recommended Posts

Hey- I'm wondering about Hair loss and sleeve surgery. I am to have mine soon and am already having hair loss due to hormone changes, I think. So I am scared I may go bald! Anyone have any info related to this?

Hiya Carly,

I am 19mths post op and was told that I am perimenopausal this time last year. My hair has thinned ... but it isn't too bad. I did have it cut off into a shorter, neater style and if you don't look for the thinning you can't really see it.

Not sure if that helps!

Are you on HRT or any other medication?

Have you been sleeved?

Hi coops,

Thanks. I am not sleeved yet. My date is April 1. But over the last year or so, I have lost so much hair already. No, I am not on any medication or hormones. I am a bit worried, but the alternative is not good either. Thanks for replying!

Hey Deedles,

I am in the hospital day 1 postoperative. I am worried about going bald too. Been looking at where to buy hairpieces! Hopefully it won't come to that. Take care.

Hey Deedles,

I am doing better thank God. The day after surgery was a bit hard. I had some powerful gas pains, but right now I am just working on trying to get enough liquid in. I am drinking Water, veggie broth, activia, and a little juice. I have been trying to walk but mostly just around in the house. I feel that as soon as I am able to eat more 'normally' the real work will start-psychological stuff.

Hopefully you will be just fine. I think I feel better just not having any of the bad foods in my system.

Best wishes!

I'm wondering if you still have the hairloss post op,if you take in plenty of Protein or does it occur no matter what?

I am having Hair loss. It started at month three and is still going now in month 5. I'm hoping it will slow and cease soon!

I believe I am peri`menopausal. If I loose to much hair, I may chop it off and wear girlie "doo`rags". Hopefully it wont come to that.

I'm having surgery in a couple of weeks (scared, excited ...). I did Hcg a couple of years ago and was on 500 calories a day for 30 days - 3 months later, I started losing huge clumps of hair and it lasted about 2 months. However, it eventually stopped and then grew back. I assume I am one of the people who will lose a bunch of hair, but I will eat (or drink) all my Protein and hope for the best - AND I know it will grow back. I am also starting menopause - a lot of people complain about being cold so I am hoping I'll keep warm with hot flashes!

It's H C G. It is a hormone pregnant women have. If you take it while dieting, you can SUPPOSEDLY have a 500 calorie per day diet without your body going into starvation mode. Dr. Oz had it on his show back in 2011 and I decided to try it. I lost 28 lbs in a month and it wasn't that hard, and obviously my body did not go into starvation mode. However, I did lose hair several months later, and, of course, I gained the weight back.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
