Thanks, I wouldn't thing it would stop surgery, but wasn't sure with this because there is a risk after surgery with such little intake of food. Well, I will post back on here if anything happens because of it. I'm sure it will be fine. :)

Mine was 19, and didn't affect the surgery date. Now, three months out, I can finally "stomach" the 50,000 IU capsule.

I am so sorry, it has only been 5 years since my sleeve. I don't know how to count I guess!!!!! My Vitamin D levels have been low since last year, not prior to surgery.

@Luck...Still! 5 years out is one of the oldest sleeves here!

I'd love to see a general update from you...how you eat, how your maintenance has been, etc.

When I started the six-month supervised diet required by my insurance company, my Vitamin D level was 11. I was given a prescription supplement of 50,000 IU D3 once a week for eight weeks. I was then retested and my level was 23. My nutritonist told me it has to be 30 for surgery so I was started again on the prescription D3. I met with my surgeon last week and he told me 30 is a older guideline. He now requires only a 20 to go ahead with surgery.

I have my preop testing next week, so I've added 2000 IU D2 each day to the 50,000 IU D3 I take once a week. I'd cry if a low Vitamin D level postponed my surgery.

Vitamin D deficiency is related to hypothyroid, obesity and/or lack of sunlight. The whys behind that haven't been figured out completely, but I guarantee all three reasons are related to my D deficiency. I stopped "sunning" a few years ago after my obgyn fussed at me for having a slight tan (we had just returned from a Caribbean cruise, darn right I'd been in sunlight). I then gained more weight which made me too hot to sit in the sun. Finally I developed hypothyroid. A perfect storm, really.

At the pre-op stage, with surgery date of April 10th, so question....what does IU stand for? So, some people are just taking one pill a week of 50,000mg? Some are taking x amount daily ....hmmm....I have no idea what my Vit d level is.

IU, I believe, stands for International Units. It's a different way of measuring drugs and Vitamins than using mg. An example is that two different capsules, say Iron and B12, would weigh the same amount if they had the same mg. But if they were measured in IU, they'd have different weights even if they both were, say, 5,000 IU. Hope I didn't confuse you, lol.

I'm taking a 50,000 IU Vitamin D pill weekly, not mg. Mg deals with the weight, IU deals with the biological aspects of it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
