Trying To Stay Calm.

Recommended Posts

My surgery is 8am tomorrow, I can't believe it....trying for over 6 month, it's finally here. I only hope I can stop driving myself crazy tonight. Worried about all sort of medical issues that could arise....a little knowledge is deadly.

On another note, I'm so excited to get some help for my weight issues. I'm 51 years old and I'm dog tired of being obese. I'm looking forward to some of my many future goals...riding roller coasters and planes comfortably, wearing clothes from the "regular sizes", and so many more.

I was a basket case the night before mine. It all went so well, I thought afterward, what were you so worried about, this is a peice of cake! I was worked up over nothing. I hardly had any pain, no gas, I was just tired for about a week. You got this girl! Its no big wow. You will back to normal in no time! Get some rest!

you will be fine, It is more an emotional issue than anything else. My surgery was back in August 2011 and I can't believe it is 7 months gone already. I was just as nervous as you are tonight and take everyone's word for it, it is really nothing to worry about. Congradulations and hurry back online to let us know how you are doing with your journey.

Everyone one of us that has had surgery had the same thoughts that you are having tonight and we all came through this just fine. I know that your surgery will be a success and tomorrow you will wonder what all the worrying was about. I know that there is nothing that we can do but reassure you but please remember that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Tomorrow will be the first day for your life.......even in your 50's as it was for me as I am also starting a new life in my 50's.

Keep us posted on your progress

gmadeline - I am checking in tomorrow too at 8:30am, and as you I am very nervous. Yesterday I had almost talked myself out of it but today was much better. I look forward to hearing how your experience went and we could compare notes. Where are you having your surgery? I'm having mine in Portland OR. Good luck!

Wow! You ladies (and gents) are so encouraging. I'm waiting for my surgery date but I know I'll be a basket case the night before as well. So gmadeline10 you'll be the one on the other side of surgery telling me everything will go great and just as well as yours did!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
