Hello there. I am scheduled to have my surgery on 3/27 @ University of Chicago. I'm really excited. I went to my support group meeting there was a bunch of vets there, but there was also newbies there. I found it very helpful. They hold tehir meetings every 1st Tuesday of the month @ 5pm. They welcome everyone.

You know I was really hoping that there would be going on here. I've had a few idea's that I thought would be excellent. I was reading an article in a magazine about women coming up with innovatve ways to overcome the ressesion. One of the popular things was a clothing exchange. They set up changing areas and had full size mirrors. So not only did they bring clothes that they no longer wore, but they also brought accessories, purses, and shoes. I thought that would be great for WLS patients. So I'd love to try to get together a group of ladies and try to execute this. Also physical activity, with spring here and summer approaching, I thought it would be cool to kind of get an activity group togather, and maybe try different things. Some of the things I'm interested in doing are tennis lessons, kayak lessons, walking, biking.

and that is exactly what I was trying to do by doing this post!!! i feel so damn depressed and I need to do something, I need to be surrounded by ladies or even men like us. Who understand what we are going through, and it's different if we are surrounded by people in person than online. I mean online support is awesome but I need real interaction, like group stuff, it seems more real that way? HOpe I am explaining myself good. Sorry I am trying to type fast, hubby and i are going out, and i jumped on here quick when i read my notification on my cell, lol.

but I will get back to you on this.. i love this idea!!!!!!!! seriously!!! woohoo, I am very excited.

So you're surgery is coming up soon!!!!! I don't even know but it would be great to visit you during your surgery, unfortunately I work those 3 days in a row! I work at a hospital 12hr shifts. So you said your hospital support groups accepts everyone? even people that weren't operated there? my hospital only accept their patients and no one else, not even guests or support partners! If they do heck! I would love to go with you to a support group if I can!

I am so excited for you!!!

Well I've only been to one meeting, but there were support people there, and just random people. So I don't think it is a big deal if you show up. I will be going to the April meeting, I will only be 1 week post op, but I'm sure it won't be a problem. Hopefully you can make it.

Cool, I definitely will. do you do the support groups at all? how are they?

I really liked Dr. P the psychiatrist. We had a great session.

You're doing great with your weight loss, by the way! :)

I stopped going to their support groups because I was the only new one that would go and everyone else was veterans, lol. I felt left out when they would tell stories, haven't been to a support group in 6months! So who knows maybe there are more newbies there? They seem pretty cool and family knit type of closeness.

I had dr Kissinger as my psych dr. my mom has her appt with dr P.

Good Monday Morning,

Just discovered this group. So nice to have local access. Both in the Chicago area and specific to sleevers. I had my surgery 12/08/2010. 80 lbs gone. about 40 more to go. Still waiting for "onederland". Seem to be stuck here@ 212. Really trying to focus on the exercise . I have some back issues that result in more pain after my workout. Waiting to see ortho next week for direction. Even Water aerobics hurts. I am an ED Nurse and I work 7p-7a. so my posting my come at odd times. Looking forward to meeting 'locals'. How do I add one of those colorful tracker bars to this?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
