To Barf, Or Not To Barf?... That Is The Question.

Recommended Posts

Sorry that this is gross...

I just ate too fast, for the first time... about 3oz of cottage cheese and a little peice of turkey. I have the foaming, burping, pain! But I refuse to barf. I hate barfing. Am I doing damage by holding it down? I know if I step in the bathroom it will come up... To barf, or not to barf? that is the question.

I also hate to barf, but I decided I would hate stomach problems even more. So I barf. Better safe than sorry. It is a learning process. I'm better at judging how much to eat now. I'm almost 3 months out.

After posting that I had the same thought as you... walked in to the bathroom and let it out. (Sorry again, tmi)... I must have chewed really good, because it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be... tummy is happy again. Wheeeew. SLOW DOWN SABRINA (<-- note to self! >_< )

I wish I could do that sometimes, but it seems like since I've had surgery I can't seem to throw up. I know it's tmi but I gag just nothing will come up

I've thrown up quite a bit. It's about getting to know your sleeve I think. I just try again in a few minutes. Then, I start to worry about developing bulimia. But, I'm more worried about getting the necessary amount of Protein. I eat a smaller amount and then usually don't have to throw up & eat again ;)

It depends, if I just feel uncomfortable, I try and get through the first 10 minutes because I know I'll feel fine after. If I keep sliming continuously, then I'll go to the washroom and just let whatever comes up come up - I don't put my fingers in to force myself to vomit or anything to actually provoke vomiting. I wouldn't even call it vomiting - it's more like burping the way a baby burps after feeds. I'm generally paranoid about forceful vomiting with the sleeve, but I actually had a terrible bout of stomach flu a few months ago where I vomited 50+ times in one night and did not notice any sort of residual effects on the sleeve.

I have had a couple of episodes of vomiting. Last night, I tried to eat a soft scrambled egg, and after about 3 bites, it made me sick. I actually felt like I had something stuck in my chest, although I chewed really well. So, today, I did liquids, and about 6, I decided to try an egg again...after 1 bite, I was sick. I am chewing really well, and eating very slow. The mess is more like slimy stomach acid, nothing solid at all. I am sorry, this is gross, but we are all openly talking about it, and the topic says it all! I did manage to eat 3oz of Applesauce in an hour, just a while ago, so I think I am just going to stay away with eggs for a while...I have been eating eggs for 2 weeks, and only in the last 2 days has it made me sick. Vomiting does drain me though! Hope everyone feels better soon!!

Ugh...I did this tonight. My best friend took me to dinner at Red Lobster & I ordered 8 garlic shrimp, had one of his crab legs & about an ounce of lobster. After watching them eat those yummy bisquits I was ready to eat. I only ate a couple of my shrimp & the other stuff & I felt the worst I've ever felt. Literally thought it was coming up at the table & it hurt, but only for about 10 minutes. After that I was fine. I am however having the hardest time getting enough Water each day. Anyway, I feel your pain.

I hate throwing up too. I even cry as I'm doing it. Most of the time, I just sit and breathe to let it pass. Sometimes, it just gets to be too much though. I don't even have to run to the bathroom. I calmly tell my roommate I'll be right back and walk slowly to the bathroom and let it out. Feels so much better afterwards!

OK - you guy totally crack me up!!! I'm constantly amazed at how similar my experiences are (down to the tiniest detail!) to others on this board. You are technically strangers, but you feel like comrades! Been there, felt that way, done that... thanks for the morning laugh everyone!

PS - I've been in the to barf or not to barf about three times (I'm 6 weeks out). Have to say, I barfed and, though traumatizing, I felt so much better. My big thing is NEED TO SLOW DOWN when I eat.

I've only actually been sick once since surgery at six months out. I ate at Carrabas with friends. I grazed on seafood, a bite of Pasta, a tiny bite of the bread with olive oil and was doing okay. But, as we got up to leave, I drank a sip of my drink. By the time I got to the car, I had to leave my delicious dinner in the parking lot. It was just like burping it up instead of the more intense puking sensation I had before surgery, which I thought was weird too.

I'm definitely glad to see that I'm not alone. It gives me hope that I'm not totally weird! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
