3 Weeks Po, Slow Losing, Moody & Hungry:-)

Recommended Posts

So today is 3 weeks post op date. I am very glad that I am feeling better every week. The pain from the incision in the right side muscle was almost unbearable the first week and now it only bothers me when sitting too long.

I am totally used to burping in-between bites..lol.... not something I ever thought I would be comfrtable with, but it has to be done or food gets stuck. I had a bad weekend of trying new foods, and all feeling stuck.

As for the weight loss.... well I feel that I am a slow loser? I can see that lots of people have twice the success as me. I lost 9lbs the first week and 4 since then, nothign since last friday tho. I know that 12lbs is still something to be happy about. I could not even button my pants after surgery because of the iv fluids and gas inside me so at least I feel that I am fitting into my pants with ease.

I know that 12lbs in 3 weeks is something I would not have done on my own. I also know that not drinking alcohol or eating late night Snacks would still be happening if I did not have this surgery. It is a shame I could not have adopted this mind set before, as I am still always hungry, so I have been cranky.

The worst for me right now is the moods! I am hungry... my dr says it is gas, and ummmmm noooooo it is hunger!! so I am depressed not to be able to fullfill that emtiona need sometimes, and then angry cause I am hungry and feel pain when I eat most of the time, so then angry for putting myself in the position of being so over weight that I had to have surgery and then I feel sad that I have so many restrictions which make it hard to enjoy being out with friends and family as we used to.

I am glad I made the choice to do something for me that will help change my life because I know that a year from now i will see this was all worth it.

good luck to all on your journey.

Sorry you are having so many problems. I am just wondering what foods that you are eating at 3 weeks that are getting stuck, At 3 weeks there were not that many things that were on my diet plan. I know that diets vary a great deal from doctor to doctor so just wondering what types of food you are trying to eat at 3 weeks post op.

According to my dr I'm able to eat chicken Soup, (not noodles yet) lentil soup (any soup with Beans really) and soft scrambled eggs and lean meats plus tuna (which made me puke). The eggs are very hard to get down no matter how soft i scramble them and even egg whites. Even sf

Jello goes down rough even after I keep it in my mouth to a liquid.< /p>

Can't do cold Water yet but I'm able to drink @least 8 cups of room temp water a day:-)

The chicken in the soup is so soft and I chew it softer but it still feels stuck and I have to walk around and burp for about 15-20 minutes.

Protein Shakes are good. I can't drink milk based anything yet as it makes me ill but I'll either mix them with water or silk milk.

It's quite a process trying to eat and eat slow and wait for pain to pass... I know it'll get easier but now it sucks;)

You are doing great, everyone is different. 12 lbs is 12 lbs, dont think you didnt lose enough. The way I look at it, the slower you lose , the less likely to get saggy skin! I will be 4 weeks out this Friday and I can eat all kinds of things. I have been out to dinner, had fish ceviche ( minus the tostada shell) and I freaking loved it so much I bought all the ingredients and made some at home. We love mexican food so I have had a grilled chicken taco, ate just the meat and salsa, approx 1/4 cup or so, no problems. I can eat pretty much anything it seems, just not a lot of it. Just keep trying new things, it will all fall into place for you!

i am in the same boat as you, it is embarassing all the questions people ask and they dont really see a big difference

yet... my family watches me eat. i too feel hungary. i go to eat and im disappointed and in pain. or if i do eat and it goes

down ok. i feel guilty maybe i ate to much, just remember how much we ate before our surgery all the fast food and sn

acking and over over over eating all day long. were getting healthy. we are trying. please lets all stick together and

be proud of our lil progress we have made. because before it was bad really bad. today is better because im not

gorging. this is work but i feel god will bless our efforts. dont give up you are not alone. i weighed in on my day

of surgery. at 304 today im 288.6 its not enough but its the truth. and its better than before.

Just keep doing what you are doing and it will get easier. I haven't had any problems with foods but I am not losing weight as fast as I expected. Many people post how the weight is just pouring off of them but it isn't for me. Kepp up the spirits and so will I :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
